What surprised Julissa was that when Mrs. Nicholas looked at her, her gaze wasn’t filled with hostility or sarcasm. Instead… there was a trace of guilt.
And maybe… even a bit of admiration?
Julissa thought she must’ve been mistaken. Mrs. Nicholas had just criticized her for not meeting the standards of a Nicholas family daughter-in-law. How could she possibly admire her?
Mrs. Nicholas pressed her lips together and said, “Maybe I didn’t express myself well just now and caused a misunderstanding. You’re beautiful, hardworking, and kind. You come from a good family. I don’t have anything against you.”
If you’re not marrying my son, Julissa silently added that sentence in her mind.
But Mrs. Nicholas didn’t say it aloud. Instead, she gave a bitter smile and continued, “Actually, I’ve shared all my thoughts with Scott before. Do you know what he said to me?”
Her tone was gentle and full of sincerity.
