We sat outside on one of those benches that people usually sat on when their loved one was in the hospital when they had not heard a single piece of good news, and they were on the verge of giving up.
As I clutched the bottle of water in my hand and sat in silence beside him, I looked at the passing cars and suddenly felt sleepy.
“I tried to help-”
“I know, my mother told me. She told me everything you did. I should thank you but I don't think the words would come out of my mouth.”
He nodded.
“That’s fine.”
There was honestly nothing to say to him. Just because he was innocent in that case didn't mean we were suddenly friends and I would suddenly forgive him for everything.
At the end of the day, it still didn't change what he did, and nothing ever will, so we were still back to square one.
I stood up and held my bag in my hand.
