I stayed in the room while the doctors and the nurses did their thing. I couldn't bear to leave her again and from the tears in her eyes, she didn't want me to leave either.
“The results would be ready soon.”
I gave the doctor a small nod and thanked him as he walked out of the room.
“Hey.” I sat beside her and held her hand lightly “How are you? How do you feel?”
She didn't say anything. She just stared at me like I could see her thoughts, rather ready her thoughts. I wish I could though, so she won't have to speak. There were bruises on her lips and I don't even want to know how they got there.
“What is it? Talk to me, I can hear you.”
“I'm sorry. I should have known better.” Her quiet voice said.
Hearing that apology from her broke my heart and I had to turn my head away from her as the tears poured out of my eyes.
