Rita breathed deeply, a deep breath shot through with years of disillusionment and exhaustion. She was quieter spoken when she spoke once more, but more corrosively for all that.
" Felicia, do you even hear how completely crazy this is? That girl, that beautiful, beautiful girl who has never done anything to hurt could have been killed tonight. You could have been killed! And your only concern, your only worry, is to exchange wild stories about your ex-boyfriend?"
"He is not even my ex!" Felicia shot back, and in that instant, I could sense genuine desperation creeping into her voice. "He is the father of my child! Everything was gonna happen sooner or later. It's destiny, Mom. It's fate. We are meant to be together and now we get to have a family!"
