Desmond stood by the mirror, buttoning his cufflinks with the efficiency of a man who never let emotion delay a tailored suit.
Meanwhile, I was on my knees in front of Kai, trying to wrestle a bow tie around a very uncooperative five-year-old who had no intention of keeping still.
“Kai,” I said, trying not to laugh, “hold still or I’ll wrap this thing around your forehead and call it fashion.”
He grinned up at me, then tilted his chin with exaggerated seriousness.
“Do I look like a CEO’s son?”
Desmond chuckled without looking up. “You look like a CEO who’s about to fire someone for not bringing gummy bears to the meeting.”
