"Compensation from her late boyfriend's car accident?" I asked, my voice quieter now.
Compensation? Oh shit. How did I mix it up? Or maybe he was lying. Men would say anything to make you feel better.
Seb leaned back slightly, running his hand through his messy hair like he always did when he was trying to keep calm. "You forgot. I told you about it before," he said, his tone careful, like he was walking on eggshells and didn't want to annoy me further. "It’s... it’s a complicated case, Emma. Ava needs my help."
I frowned, my arms crossing over my chest. I wasn’t sure if it was the way he said her name or the fact that he always seemed to be at her beck and call, but something about this whole situation just didn’t sit right with me.
I mean he was probably telling the truth but I still didn't feel comfortable with the whole thing.
