It was nice seeing them back together.
I had been watching from a distance, leaning against my car, the faint hum of the engine filling the silence around me. Trina’s laughter echoed from inside the house, followed by Evie’s softer giggles, the sound tugging at something deep in my chest.
I never knew the letter would actually work. I half-expected Trina to ignore it, to hold onto the grudge, but it did what I needed it to do. It brought them back together. It gave Evie a piece of herself again.
And as much as I would love to say I did it for her, that I selflessly patched up her friendship out of the goodness of my heart, that would be a lie.
