"Evie!" His voice ripped through the room like a wild storm, filled with anger, disbelief, and pain. It was the kind of roar that made fear grip one’s throat and my hands tremble slightly at my sides.
I swallowed hard, trying to keep my composure. "What?" I forced my voice to stay even, masking the fear clawing inside of me.
His chest rose and fell rapidly as he stared at me in nothing as I had just stabbed him in his stomach severally. "Tell me that was a joke. Right?"
I cleared my throat, knowing damn well he wasn't going to like my answer. "Not at all."
His hands curled into fists. "I know you can't be serious."
"I am serious, Dave. I'm marrying Mike."
His face twisted with a mixture of shock and rage. "Are you really going to throw away everything we have? Everything we've been through? For him?"
"Yes, I will if it means saving my father."
He let out a dry, bitter laugh, shaking his head. "Really? You wouldn't do such a thing."
"I will. And that's exactly what I'm going to
