I have been vomiting continuously and I know people have started noticing. The ones who see me too often must have picked up on my pale face, my sudden need to sit down, and the way my hands tremble when I lift a cup of water to my lips. But staying indoors helped. The baggy clothes do, too. Though they make me look like a sick person, but not pregnant.
The best news of my life came when Mom broke the news about Dave getting into Yale. Yale wasn't close to the house, which automatically meant that would keep him very far from home.
I couldn’t stop the smile that spread across my face even right now. My stomach twisted, but for once, it wasn’t nausea. It was a relief. Pure and glorious relief. I shot up from the couch, my heart hammering against my ribs.
I should have played it cool. I should have pretended and said something like, “Well, of course, he did. It’s Dave.” But I didn’t. I covered my mouth with both hands and laughed. Because this was good news. Great news.
