There was only a doctor who maybe truly saw me to have a reason for my actions. At least, I felt kind of safe with her.
“You may feel light cramping for the next couple of days,” she said, her voice calm and low. “Some spotting is normal. Emotionally, people have very different responses. There’s no right or wrong way to feel about abortion. Be kind to yourself. You’ve made a choice. And whatever that means to you, it’s valid and real,” she said with a genuine smile, forming wrinkles in her eyes.
She handed me a small brown paper bag with the post-procedure medications: antibiotics to prevent infection, painkillers for the cramps, and misoprostol, though I’d already taken the last dose at the clinic. She looked me in the eye when she added, “And remember, you’re not alone. If you feel overwhelmed, reach out. It doesn’t have to be today. Just whenever you need.”
