Her wolf finally growled.
Ryland's body was still tense as the realization settled over him too. His emerald eyes flashed wide for a moment, the usually unshakeable Alpha looking truly stunned.
But the shock quickly twisted into something darker, his face hardened as a sinister smile appeared on his face as his wolf wildly howled inside of him, calling out for her.
"No," he growled, his hands tightening hard on her hips, "No, this isn't possible."
Her trembling lips parted, her voice a barely heard whisper. "What..... what do you mean?"
Anger and denial blazed in his eyes as he looked at her, "You," he spat, "Are not my mate. Never."
Tears formed at the corners of her eyes threatening to fall. "But.... I can now feel it," she said, her voice cracking. "You're my....”
Her words were a soft plea, a desperate hope. For the first time since her capture, she thought there might be something bigger at play. The Moon Goddess had paired them.
