ANA’S POV
I wanted to stand in a corner. I didn’t want to be part of anything that was going on. The kids had arranged a little dance, and even Anna was part of it. She was getting good at keeping secrets. I wanted to be sad at the fact that she was learning how to keep things from me. But I couldn’t deny the fact that I could see the evident excitement on her face as she danced and twirled around the stage. All eyes were on her.
She hurried down to where I was standing, and I squatted to her level.
“You didn’t tell me about the dance,” I said softly, and she nodded, making her little curls bounce around her face.
“The teacher asked us to keep it a secret. She said I could surprise you with this. And I liked the idea.”
I leaned in as I kissed her forehead. The person that coordinated the dance came, and slowly took all the kids away. People were randomly coming to touch my shoulder and tell me about how much good I was doing in raising Anna. It genuinely made me proud of whatever I
