I was relieved that I escaped without being followed. It was already frustrating to see that you always have someone after you. I felt like a real detective during this whole adventure.
I walked out onto the balcony and made it down the fire escape without Kevin’s men seeing me. He never would have imagined I was capable of that. It was pretty dangerous, but at that point I don’t know what was more dangerous. I was risking my life trying to escape the dungeon Kevin had surely set up for me, or I was going to end up in his hands.
Although I felt a great weight lifted from my soul, it overcame me with fear. It filled my thoughts with a lot of unanswerable questions.
“What are they going to do, Mom, Gaby and her family? What if Kevin thought of hurting them? I couldn’t bear it if anything happened to anyone because of me.”
The chaos in my mind was heightening. Just the fact that I’d left things so messed up at home made my heart flutter, but the thought of reaching out to a strange
