“Sorry, I didn’t mean to sound disrespectful,” Mr. White said, directing his voice at the board, “but Mr. Lucas here has no clue how to run this company. He’s barely around. We all know Morris handed him a portion of his shares, but that doesn’t make him qualified. Especially not now, when the company just recovered from a serious financial blow.”
“I beg your pardon, Mr. White,” Lucas replied, his voice clear and slightly raised, standing to his feet without hesitation. “I have a degree in Business Administration, and I’ve been working behind the scenes to make sure this company stays solid. Just because I haven’t been physically present every day doesn’t mean I’m ignorant about how things work here.”
