She stood straight, the book still in her hand, before quietly walking back toward the bookshelves. I leaned back in the chair, bracing my forearms against the armrests, cursing softly under my breath.
Get it together.
She wasn’t doing anything wrong, but fuck, the way she moved, calm and unbothered, in that damn pair of night shorts, was enough to make me feel like my skin was on fire. I kept my eyes on her, jaw clenched, until her voice floated back toward me.
"Where’s your hometown, by the way?"
I cleared my throat, sitting up a little straighter before I stood up. "Marseille. This city is just north of it."
She nodded slowly, thoughtful, as she returned the book to its place. She turned to face me, but I was already standing behind her.
Her breath caught.
I saw it in the way her chest stilled, the way her fingers curled slightly as she looked up at me with those soft, damn eyes.
I stepped in closer, my hand lifting before I even thought it through, and
