I sat in the car, fingers clenched around the hem of my dress, twisting the fabric into a wrinkled mess. My heart was pounding so loudly I could hear it echo in my ears. I didn’t need to look at Nico to know he was furious. His silence was deafening. The kind that wrapped around you and squeezed until your lungs felt like they might give out.
Fuck.
Fuck, fuck, fuck.
I should have brought the guards. Hell, I should have charged my goddamn phone. How had I not noticed it was dead? How had I not realized how this would look?
But what I couldn’t figure out was how he even got here. How did he know where I was?
