I woke up to the soft weight of Zoey curled beside me, her head resting just below my collarbone. The sun was slipping through the curtains, casting lines of gold across the bed and for the first time in what felt like forever, it was quiet and peaceful.
Zoey stirred and blinked up at me with sleepy eyes. I brushed a hand down her back.
“Morning,” I murmured.
“Mm,” she hummed, stretching slightly. “Is it weird that I miss her?”
“Who?”
“Lily,” she whispered. “She’s been gone for like a day, but it feels longer. I didn’t realize how used to her I was until she wasn’t around.”
I looked down at her, running my thumb along her arm. “We can visit her. She’s not that far.”
Her eyes lit up just a little, and I could tell she didn’t expect me to say yes that fast.
“You sure?”
I nodded. “She’s still part of our pack. And… you need her.”
