Chapter 43
Steve sighed loudly and then rushed up the stairs, his heart still pounding. He couldn't wait to see her. Things were getting complicated, especially leaving her alone, and to make matters worse, he could go everywhere with her.
Steve went straight to Gabby’s room and pushed the door open. She was sitting on the bed, reading a book and she lifted her head to glance at Steve who just walked in.
Before she could even speak, Steve walked over and pulled her into a tight hug. Gabby’s arms wrapped around him as she hugged him back.
From his reaction, she could feel that something was wrong. His breathing was heavy and uneven and he held her a little tighter than usual. His eyes were full of worry as if something bad had happened.
“Big brother, what's wrong? You don't look okay ,” she said softly, her cheek against his chest.
Steve closed his eyes for a second, then pulled back just enough to look into her eyes. He had a sweet brief smile on his lips.
