As Sophia's eyes fluttered closed, Ryder's smile grew wider. He gently took the phone from Sophia's limp hand and spoke in a calm, collected tone.
"Mr. Jenkins, I think we've lost Sophia for the moment. She's not feeling well. I'll take good care of her, don't worry."
Mr. Jenkins's voice was laced with panic on the other end of the line. "What's going on, Ryder? What have you done to her?"
Ryder chuckled, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "Oh, Mr. Jenkins. You're so quick to jump to conclusions. Sophia's just had a bit too much to drink, that's all. I'll make sure she's safe and sound."
Mr. Jenkins's voice turned cold. "What do you want, Ryder?"
Ryder's smile grew wider. "I want what's mine," he said. "And I'll stop at nothing to get it."
The line went dead, and Ryder tossed the phone onto the coffee table. He leaned forward, his eyes fixed on Sophia's peaceful face.
"You're going to make me very happy, Sophia," he whispered, his breath caressing her skin. "Very happy indeed."
