The room goes silent. I mean dead silent. You could hear a pin drop on the marble.
For a second, I think I broke Parker.
He’s just standing there, staring at me like I kicked his puppy and spat in his coffee all in one go. His shoulders are rigid, his jaw flexing, lips parted but no words coming out. The Parker I know—the annoying, cocky, too-handsome-for-his-own-good disaster—is gone. This version of him looks like he’s been punched in the throat by the Goddess herself.
Theo’s eyebrows shoot up so high they could fly off his face. Sonia’s eyes go wide. Sonia’s hand covers her mouth like she’s about to faint. Even Michael looks like he swallowed his tongue.
And then there’s Elias. His expression? Murderous. Like, “I’m about to kill everyone in this room” murderous. His fists are clenched at his sides, like he’s trying really hard not to explode.
Honestly? I’m loving every second of it.
