I fitted the ring on my finger, watching it glitter as the sun from the window brushed against it. It was pretty, but it was an engagement ring, and it was getting me confused.
That stone on it was worth enough to get me out of Rome and live life to the fullest for a whole year, and it felt so heavy on my finger.
but not as heavy as the thoughts in my head.
"So you're saying I'll have to pretend I'm Don's fiancee because..."
Capo Bastone groaned, dragging one hand through his hair. "I can't believe we're going over this again. Now listen here. I won't be explaining myself again."
I nodded, wondering why Don hadn't come himself; instead, he had sent his friend or assistant. And even though this would be the third time he's explained it to me, I just couldn't wrap my head around it.
