Chapter 9

-AMELIA-

I woke up to the sound of my alarm. The thought of Sara not waking me up with water saddened me but I stood up and went to the washroom thinking of ways to irritate Sean so that he gets out of the house.

I went near his room to see if he was still sleeping or had already woken up. I slightly opened his door and saw him fixing a punching bag from the ceiling, shirtless. Trying keep his hot body out of my mind I pushed the door open and went inside. “You can’t fix such things in my house.”

He looked at me and smirked. “Cute. Where is your manners, Senorita? I thought you were cultured enough to knock on the door before you enter a stranger’s room.” I scoffed and realizing that arguing with him is pointless I left the room to make some breakfast. I was making omelets for myself when I an idea came to me. Why didn’t I think about this before?

Because you rarely use your brain which is me.

I used you now didn’t I so stop complaining. Otherwise also I have to execute my clever plan. I took the chili powder and added a little extra with a wicked smile on my face. I chopped some garlic and added that also. As soon as I finished making the ‘delicious’ breakfast I laid it on the table it was right at that time when Sean came into the kitchen. He looked at the extra plate and a confused expression came on his face.

“Did you make breakfast for me also?” I simply nodded and he had a skeptical look on his face.

“I just thought since you are living under my roof I should share my breakfast.” He still had the ‘I don’t believe you’ expression. “How can I be sure that there is no poison in this?”

“simple.” I went and took a small bite of the omelet and I made sure to take it from a place where the garlic was not there and smiled at him. “Now do you believe me?”

He shrugged and sat down to eat while I took my plate with no garlic and extra chili and sat at the opposite end of the table. I watched as he slowly took a bite as soon as he swallowed the first bite he gagged and glared at me. “What the hell did you put in there?”

I laughed and said, “Just a pinch of chili and garlic.” He gagged again and stood up from the table and went into his room most probably to puke some more. I finished my breakfast happily and went into the kitchen to do the dishes.

I placed all the plates to dry and when I was keeping the last plate my phone rang. Why is Uncle Tom calling me? He was the manager of mama’s bakery I didn’t have the time to visit that place and wasn’t planning in doing so anytime soon I couldn’t be reminded of my past. Tom had been nice enough to handle everything after the tragedy. But why was he calling me now?

Answer the damn phone to know why, Dumbo.

Yeah I forgot. “Hi Uncle Tom, how are you?”

“I am doing good girl. How are you holding up sweetie?” see, this is why I don’t want to talk to anyone because everyone wants to show sympathy and only some are genuine. I knew Uncle Tom was genuine but it was not something I wanted to answer.

“I am slowly getting used to the emptiness. Why did you call anyway?” I asked trying to change the topic.

“Actually sweetie today is Sunday and usually your mom makes her special Danish pastries and now that she is not here it is not there. But we have regulars and some come especially for the pastries and we already turned down a few of them. I don’t think it is good for the bakery and only your mother and you knew how to make them so can you help?”

This bakery has been mama’s biggest dream and even if she is not here I can’t let her down. I saw Sean come back from the room, he was glaring at me while searching inside the fridge for something to bring back his taste buds. “Honey if it is too much for you then I will manage somehow. Don’t you worry?”

I vigorously shook my head even though tom couldn’t see it. “No its fine I will be there in an hour with the first batch. The rest I can make there according to the need.”

“Thanks I will wait for you.” I hung up the phone and saw Sean looking at me quizzically. “Where are you planning to go? I thought you are not leaving for college until tomorrow.”

“It is none of your business.” I said while taking the flour and other ingredients required for the pastry.

“Senorita I don’t think I have to repeat all that I said yesterday again.” I huffed annoyed. What does he think of himself? Arrogant jerk!

“I am going to my mother’s bakery they need my help with some pastries.”

“Oh are you going to feed them chili and garlic too?” he asked glaring at me when he said the last two words. I just rolled my eyes and continued preparing the pastries. He left me and went into my parents’ room apparently looking for the files.

An hour later I was done making the Danish pastries and was packing them when Sean came all dressed up. “Now where are you going?”

“Where else I am coming with you.” I turned so fast that my neck almost snapped. “You are joking right?”

“I am everything other than joking.”

“What am I going to tell who you are?” he shrugged and said, “That’s for you to figure. I am coming no matter what.” I rolled my eyes and went upstairs to get changed.

“Stop rolling your eyes.” He yelled after me but I just ignored it. He is staying in my house I didn’t give him the right to order me.

We reached the bakery and I was less annoyed because I made Sean hold all the packets. Ha! Too much for watching over me. Uncle Tom came forward and hugged me.

“Thank you for coming, sweetheart.”

“No need to thank me Uncle Tom I am just doing what is required.” He nodded and looked at Sean and then back at me. “Who is this?”

“Um…he is a new helper. Mama had hired him two days back.”

“Does he bake well?”

“Oh no he is here to help wait the tables and clean.” I said smiling on the inside and I looked at Sean who looked like he was ready to kill me right now but there was also an amusement in his eyes.

“But he looks so educated.”

“Yeah he is but right now he needs this job more than anything. Sean please get into your uniform and start your work. Uncle tom let me help you with the pastries.” He nodded and showed Sean where the changing room was and he went there helpless. It’s his fault that he wanted to watch over me.

After a while of baking and laughing at the way Sean was working his ass off me took a rest and sat in the kitchen seat. Sean came inside and glared at me. “You know that was a cheap shot.”

I sat up straight and looked at him,” do I look like I care?”

“You are going to pay for whatever you did to me today.” I rolled my eyes and just showed him the middle finger.

“Darling I told you to stop rolling your eyes.” And then started an argument which finally stopped after the interference of Uncle Tom who was disappointed that I fought with an innocent worker to which I rolled my eyes and that made Sean to glare at me.
