Karen’s POV

“Because it’s ten years ago today, kid.” He replies and his eyes drop.

It’s ten years ago today that I lost Papa to a brain tumour. Ten years ago today, William became my guardian.


“Where is Papa?” I asked, horror written on my face as I stared at William’s wounded ones.

He looks down, still rubbing small circles on my hand. “Papa has gone to a place a much better place and there he won’t be sick anymore.”

My childish heart leaped for joy at what William had said. Papa was in a better place, he will not be sick or have his hair fall off again and if there was a place like that, I too wanted to go. “I want to go to where papa is. Will you take me there?”

Then he looked up at me. His eyes seem to contemplate the suitable answer to give. “One day you are going to go there and you will meet him, but now I need you here with me.”

I stare at him sadly, tears filling up my eyes, “If Papa’s gone, who will I stay with?” I ask as tears run down my face and my lip
