CHAPTER 4.1

Lou’s Point of View

Today is Friday. Most favorite day of mine. Thank God it’s Friday!!! I can rest from tasks.

I’m currently walking in the hallway of our school. Gosh! What are my classmates did yesterday?? I’m absent and maybe we have an assignment then they don’t tell me that there is!?

I’m not nervous because I have an excuse letter. But I’m worried that they might take a summative test and my teachers won’t let me take???

I was brought back in reality when someone asked me a question.

“Oh, Lou?! Why you’re absent yesterday?” Caye asked.

“We’re fixing important things yesterday. By the way, what did you do?” I said.

“Nothing. Gio only reported in English alone. I thought you were annoyed because of him last day so he could report alone. He seems nervous though. But according to his report, he reported it positively” Caye answered. I smiled because Gio followed my advice and opinions.

“Approved for Ma’am?” I asked

“Yes! Ma’am loves it and I think Gio followed your stance” She said

“There is no exam, yesterday right?” I asked again. This is how I am when I am absent. Restless.

“No, we haven’t! Come inside the room because Ma’am is coming! I’m going to buy something in the canteen!” Caye said and she went to the canteen.

I entered our classroom and I noticed my classmates busy with their notebooks.

“What’s happening?” I asked Vianca

“Ma’am just announce earlier. We will be having a long quiz in science! 50 items!!!” She said nervously.

“Woah surprise quiz! Nice welcome to absent like me!” I said and laughed sarcastically.

“I don’t even know what’s the coverage of the quiz!” she looked stressed and confused.

“Because all you know is playing Mobile Legends!” I laughed while teasing her and she defends herself.

“No! I’d beauty rest yesterday!” and she touched her glowing face.

“Woah!” I laughed loudly at her.

“Well. By the way, why where were you yesterday? Why you’re absent! You left Gio alone in reporting! He looked a coward cat!” Vianca said while laughing that made me laugh also.

“Really? Hahaha! We fixed some papers yesterday” I answered her question.

“Wow! Have you sign a contract to Hollywood? Take me with you and make me an actress! Even if it’s extra that will be okay but my talent fee is 100 USD!” I almost slapped Vianca because of what she said.

“100 US DOLLARS FOR PASSING BY? Tetra pack and biscuit is enough.”

“Mars we should review instead,” He said and I took out my Science notes and started reading. We are here on the topic of Earth’s Interior. Seismic waves to be specific. I do not like this topic. But no choice.

Our teacher in Science came and she went in front.

“Okay class, we will be having a long surprise quiz. I’m sorry for not informing all of you but since your first periodical exam will be coming next-next week so I need an output to complete computing your grades.” Ma’am said. Annoyance is evident in each of everyone’s faces. We haven’t learned that much yet!!!

“The passing score will be 44.” My classmate’s eyes widened. What the heck? 44 seriously!?

“Don’t worry we discussed all the questions included on your quiz so you know howsoever.” She added. That’s fake news. Seems like she hasn’t taught all the lessons yet because we always do activities.

“Get one and pass. That will be your questionnaire. Get one intermediate paper. All I can see to your armchair is the questionnaire, answer sheet, and your ballpen.” She said. Each everyone took a questionnaire and passed it backward.

“Once you have a questionnaire, you may start answering” I started answering. As soon as I read number 1, my eyes widened and it scratched my head.

What is the approximate distance from the surface to the center of the Earth?

1.                  1000 miles

2.                  4,000 miles

3.                  10,000 miles

4.                  40,000

Just wait!!! I was not informed that the Earth needs to be measured!!! Gosh ‘I don’t know the answer so I just guessed. I wrote the answer in my paper.

I read the next question.

What keeps the mesosphere from melting?

1.                  Cool temperature

2.                  Distance from the sun

3.                  High Pressure

4.                  Low Pressure.

I know this somehow. This is Letter C!!! I wrote the letter C on my answer sheet.

This is fake news. Most of the questions here are difficult to answer because we have not tackled everything very well.

About thirty minutes passed and I looked at my classmates. They are very difficult with questions.

Some looked drained. We didn't study the others here.

I continued reading when I saw our teacher doing her rounds. She suddenly stopped in our direction and stared at me. I looked at her clueless. I don’t know why she’s glancing at me.

“Lewis? What’s under your chair?” she asked.

“What, Ma’am?”

She approached me and took something from the bottom of my armchair. When she got it, she stood up and showed it to me.

“What’s the meaning of this?” she asked in an annoyed voice

“Ma’am that’s not mine” I answered calmly. She’s holding a notebook and swear, that’s not mine.

“Why is it under your chair?” She asked again.

“Ma’am I don’t know!!!?” and out of annoyance, my voice rises. I looked at Gio when he suddenly stood up.

“Ma’am with all due respect, that’s not Lewis’ notebook. Maybe someone owns it and uses it as a cheat book?” Gio said. Some of my classmates stop answering the exam because they were distracted.

“Ma’am If you do not believe in me or Lewis, he can sit beside me so you can watch him” Gio added. Since Gio is sitting in front, Ma’am can see that I’m not cheating.

“Okay. You may take that seat, Lewis.” Ma’am said. I followed what she has said and while I’m carrying my stuff, I saw my classmates at the back and they seemed nervous. What a cheater...

I took the seat beside of Gio and I was amazed because he’s on question number 40? He was too quick! I’m at number 30!

~*~

*20 minutes later*

The exam is over and we have checked the papers. Gio is 49 while I am only 43. It's a pity because I only have to correct one question to get the passing score but it's okay. 43 is not bad despite the difficulty of our exam. But it's a pity for Gio since there is only one wrong answer, he could get a perfect score.

“Lewis, here’s your notebook” Ma’am returned my notebook. She borrowed it for a while because she’s comparing my penmanship with the notebook she found under my armchair. And she proves that I’m not cheating. The culprit was the women in the back who were handing out notebooks. Because they were kicking it, it came to me.

“Okay for the owner of this notebook, good luck! I will know you soon. For those who passed the exam, congratulations! For those who are not, better luck next time! See you on Monday. Goodbye Locsin!” Ma’am came out of our room. We have recess time now. My brain is super drained.

Before I go back to my seat, I talked to Gio.

“Gio thanks for that. If you don’t mind, why did you do that?” I asked him politely. He looked at me on my eyes and I can see his big brown eyes.

“I know you. You will never do that and since you helped me, it’s time for me to pay back” he said while smiling. Gosh, those dimples could melt my heart!

“Where?” my forehead wrinkled. I don’t know what he’s talking about.

“On our Essay Presentation. I think without your opinion, we can’t get the highest grade!” he said and that made me exaggerated.

“OHHHH REAAALLLYYYY? Omg congrats to us! I think we must celebrate! I’m going to treat you! Let’s go!” I said and I pulled his arms coming out to our room.
