Sean's POV
I am not a medical professional, but I could tell that her blood pressure was dropping. I got scared, and my knees were losing strength. The beeping of the monitor sounded like a call to the grave, and it drove me crazy.
I looked at the doctor and saw he spoke to the nurses. I could not hear anything, but I knew he was giving orders. The nurses moved like bolts of lightning. My eyes couldn't follow them all. One of them picked up a vial, aspirated the content out of it through a syringe, then infused it in the bigger bottle. I guessed it was the medicine to address her dropping blood pressure. Soon, I saw it hanging on an IV stand, followed by other bottles.
Someone approached me and took Red's history. Looking at the pin on her left upper chest, I understood that she was a post-graduate intern. I may not have known Red too well, but I was able to answer all her questions because I had Red's personal data even before I met he
SEAN'S POV"My beloved countrymen, this is my promise to all of you. I will do all it takes to stop the spread of this deadly Bronc X virus. I am commissioning a group of experts to conduct studies and research about the nature of this virus so that they can formulate drugs that would stop this malady. It had already affected not just our daily activities but also the country's economy. As of now, the best solution to this problem is to implement a strict quarantine to every district, city, municipality, and region."With my capacity as a scientist and founder of the drug that ended the plague in the past, I will impart all my knowledge to the research teams. As soon as possible, we should be able to come up with the best solution to our current suffering."The crowd gave a continuous round of applause. Bright flashes of the sea of cameras glittered inside the huge arena."God bless the president!""We love y
SEAN'S POINT OF VIEW"I don't get what you mean," I replied with a narrowed gaze-- trying to wear a nonchalant expression."I am covering for Dr. Yrna's patients, including Miss Sevilla."I felt a pool of blood rushing into my head, sending heat into my face. If I would look at myself in the mirror, I knew I would see a beet-red face, along with the sharp darts of my eyes. I hate myself for being too careless. Why didn't I think of warning Dr. Yrna to keep this matter with Calla between ourselves? Why did she choose Red's close friend to cover for her absence of all obstetricians out there?"I am never betraying her. Not all things you want to hide means betrayal," I answered, giving her a sharp gaze. "I have reasons.""There should be open communication. I'm sure she would understand. Why not make her a part of the plan?"Why not make her a part of the plan instead of hurting her with my lies? L
SEAN'S POVI remembered the rapid race ug my heartbeats as I listened to Patrick. My mind was screaming its protest; I could already guess what's next. I stared at him, sparing a blink. Perhaps, Patrick had read my mind because his lips twisted into a sad smile, its corner etched with pain."I was already a step away from success, but he took it all and claimed the full victory."There was a time when the people already cried from helplessness and despair because of the virus outbreak that caused thousands of mortalities. Just when the leaders of the country almost gave up hope, Ric Abella announced his breakthrough regarding the discovery of a particular drug that saved the country from the brink of death."Not even one of his colleagues stopped him from doing that?" I stared at him in disbelief."It was a secret that only him and I knew."I already expected this, but the next thin
SEAN'S POV "Calla, haven't I told you many times to stay only at your room?" I said in a frustrated tone, right after the call from the president got fortunately disconnected. I drew in a deep breath, but another headache had then showed up at the doorway. "Sean, I'm bored to death! Can you at least give me a job?" She walked towards my desk and sat across me, throwing her other leg above the other before she pulled herself upright. "Calla, sooner or later, your face will appear on the screen. I don't want any trouble with the president, nor with Red." "Red, again! Haven't you any female employees? Why can't I be one of them?" I sighed, regretting the day I accepted the president's request to help her hide from the public and accepting Calla's plea to escape from the president. "How about going to other countries? I can help you with that." "Sean, I'm pregnant. It's difficult to
SEAN'S POV"Philip?"I called his name after some moments of observing him. There was a narrow slit between two stretches of curtains covering the ICU glass windows. Only one was allowed to visit each time, so I had to wait outside. I just couldn't barge in even if I wanted to; I was afraid I was just paranoid. I trusted Philipever since I started taking over the business, and he never once failed me except for occasional, wrong information. His eyes grow wide for a mere second, expressing his surprise, but he was quick to get back to wearing his usual, calm demeanor behind the mask he wore."Sir, I'm sorry for Dr. Red," he commented, turning a little to glance at Red.I nodded, then asked, "Why are you here, Philip? You should be resting by now."It was a long day for the two of us since I had him do many things regarding the transfer of business ownership under the TAG Group of Companies to Red
RED'S POVI dreamed I was standing on a mountain top, looking down at the cliff below. The stiff breeze coming from the sea that sprawled beyond the cliff ruffled my hair into a mess. Instead of listening to the chirping of the birds, the gushes of the wind, and the rustling of the leaves, I heard the beeping of machines.I felt the omen of death coming closer to me. Suddenly, I heard someone whispering into my ear. I listened carefully, and those whispers came with a sob. Who could be sobbing for me? I'm already alone in this world, and Eric did not love me enough that he would cry for my departure. Then I remembered I was already with Sean, but he, too, hadn't learned to love me yet. He was kind and showed me the respect I hadn't experienced with Eric. However, he also was not perfect. He loved someone else, and they were soon having a baby!"Red, please hang on. There are so many things you need to know. T
RED'S POV Eric understood that I did not want to hear those words. Throughout his creepy confession, I looked somewhere else. Where were those sweet nothings when I most needed it? I already got so fed up with his foul mouth and complaints that recalling a part of it made me feel sick. "Red, how did this happen to you?" I slowly turned my head to look at him, relieved that he changed his topic. I pointed a finger to my throat, telling him I could not speak yet. Sore throat is common in patients after extubation, and hoarseness of voice persists after a few days or even weeks. "I see. If you're bored later, and if you're no longer tired and sleepy, we can exchange messages." Just when he has the time to chat or exchange messages with me?I rolled my eyes, and he looked away, pretending he did not see me. My silence probably told him that I no longer wanted his presenc
RED'S POV I scoffed as I reread Eric's message. Of course, he wouldn't say anything nice to the man who gave me worth. He just wanted to let me feel that Sean just played with my feelings because he perhaps thought he was taking advantage of my vulnerability. He tried to prove it to me that I didn't deserve any special affection from powerful men like them, and that only he could bear with someone like me. I would never allow him to break my self-esteem again. The bed at my right ride side sank, and soon, Sean's arms draped around me. He then pulled me up and placed my head in his chest. "Have you already decided on the design of your gown?" Sean asked as he stroke my hair with his fingers. I shook my head then wrapped my hand around his abdomen, hugging him tightly. Though I already started to harbor doubts at him, every time he showed me his gentle and caring ways, I always melted like wax against a burning c
