As the day progressed into the late afternoon, the two people in the office moved around it to make it seem like he had always been there, and this wasn’t new. He watched her as she helped him unpack his boxes from the other office, which was smaller and more to his tastes in the first place. He didn’t like to be seen to much. It was better for him if he wasn't. This office was higher up. It was where the management was. It was closer to the top levels he wanted to avoid as well.
It was also about four times the size of his last one. He never had to think about how to fill that space. Now he was left with huge areas of the blank office that screamed for something. He had no idea what that something was, though. He hoped she would. He wasn’t lying when he had said he had been told he had a horrible taste when it came to things. He had been, numerous times throughout his life.
“What else does it need?” he asked as
“When did they say it would be here?” Milo asked as he looked over to her, sitting on the couch, about an hour later. He was trying to get her speaking again as she had gone silent. Though he didn’t mind the silence in the room, he found it odd that she didn’t. She did seem completely focused on whatever she was doing.“Tomorrow.” She replied without looking up. “I will be here in the morning, so I can wait for the packages.”“We will both here in the morning.” He said with a chuckle. “Though I work mostly at night, I do keep normal hours for the most part. That is probably the point of the old man and this couch. At least he knows I will have a comfortable place to sleep.”“Well, I mean, you do go home.” She said again, not looking up at him. He began to wonder what she was doing over there and what she was looking at.“Not really.” He stated as
“Where is this errand you have to run?” Paige asked as they headed onto the highway leading out of the city.“Somewhere nearby.” He replied as he continued to drive without explaining anything.“You are not telling me on purpose, aren’t you?” She asked with a laugh.“I am afraid of your reaction when I do tell you, so I will let it sit for a bit.” He replied without saying anything more.“My reaction?” She questioned. She was now even more curious as to what he was going on about when it came to this errand he had to run that seemed to pop up out of the blue. He had nothing on his schedule that she knew of. She checked it before they left.“You will understand when you see it.” He said and then was almost chewing on his lip to keep himself from saying anything else. She looked at him and then shook her head, knowing he was going to keep his mouth shut until
On the car ride back to the city, they both were quiet. They were both thinking of everything they needed to do to prepare for the house. Milo was thinking of the bank transfer and the major things, whereas Paige was thinking of the things that would make it a home. It was still a concept to her; it had not sunk in that this man just bought a house because they both needed to move. She looked over to him and saw the look on his face. He was happy on the surface. He was thrilled as they hammered out all the details of the quick sale with the realtor. Everything seemed to be going to his plan. She didn’t know what that plan was, though, and that made her think.“Milo?” she broke the silence with her question.“What, sweetheart?” he responded without looking over to her. He somehow knew what she was going to ask without even putting too much thought into it.“You said earlier that you don’t ever
“I am almost afraid of your multi-tasking.” She said as they got back to the office and went into the inner one that was his. “But at least if the things you ordered for the office show up early, you will be there to take delivery of them.”“Yes, we will.” He said with his grin changing to a more lazy one, and he seemed more relaxed. Today had been a whirlwind of activity. He wasn’t mostly the type to create it in his own life. He found it in others and then identified which drama would do badly for the company and got rid of it. Often quickly and silently. He also knew she could get into a lot more trouble for having an affair with him here at the office, but something in him didn’t care about that. He was normally the one who would find out regardless. If this all worked out the way he could see it being, then she wouldn’t be working here much longer. He wouldn’t cross over that line now
“I don’t want more things.” She said as she looked up to his face. She didn’t want him to buy her anything more. She wanted him to know that.“Do you know how to sew?” he asked with a chuckle.“Yes, why?” she asked.“Because if you don’t remove your clothing in five seconds, the shirt will have no buttons left on it.” He growled as he looked at her, still standing there, not moving. She reached up to the top button that was still buttoned, and undid it, then she moved one down, another, and another until her shirt hung open. He looked at her fine soft skin and then pushed the offending garment to the floor. He looked at her standing there in her perfect glory without a shirt on, but he still saw too much fabric, and she was teasing him now. He liked it more than he wanted too.Her skirt was unbuttoned, and then the zipper moved down slowly until it fell off her h
Paige woke up with a start in the middle of the night. She was in a place she didn’t know and was slightly frightened until she heard the soft breathing of the man in the back of her, which she had also awoken when she nearly jumped out of the strange bed. “Something wrong, sweetheart?” he asked his voice laced with sleep and was deeper than she remembered it to be. She felt bad for waking him up as well as giving herself a mini-heart attack.“I didn’t know where I was for a second.” She said as she settled down for a moment and let her heart stop racing. It would just take a few minutes to get it calmed down to the point she could relax again.“You are right where you are supposed to be.” He said as he pulled her flush against him. Wrapping an arm over her and holding her close to him. His warmth was infusing her as she tried to get a handle on her racing heart still. It was comforting to have
Milo kept to his word and woke her at sunrise, knowing that she would have to take another shower for the day. He was glad he had moved a few of his suits into the closet already, and he helped her in the shower quickly as they knew soon the building would be coming to life again. As they both dressed, he hung a few of her new suits in the closet next to his with a smile as she went to get coffee for the both of them. Things that seemed like it would in the home they would share made everything seem even more dreamlike than it already was for the both of them. Nothing besides a few stolen small kisses here or there would tell a story that they were anything but boss and assistant. In the office, they spoke to each other as they normally would be. It was simple for both of them. The business hours were for the job they both had. Milo had already started to think about how to get what he needed to be done during the waking hours of the day instead of
“Have you decided where to place most of these?” she asked.“Is it too late to say at our new house?” Milo asked with a laugh. “Sweetheart, I think there are a few too many things in here.”“No, there isn’t. I have seen offices much more than just packed with plants. It is the placement of them that will make the office look good.” Paige said as he looked at her.“Please, then by all means. I will lift the trees, and you can tell me where to put them.” He said as he rolled up his sleeves. “Remember, we don’t have real tasks to do for the rest of the week.”“So, are you asking me to take my time?” she asked.“You have permission to be less efficient then you normally are,” he said with a grin. “I am sure that it is going to take a while for you to get everything right.”“Don’t start.” She said
