Chapter 5

The next day I woke up thinking about Isaac, it made me nervous just remembering his words. I had to summon the courage to confess my feelings to him, and I had to do it soon. I got ready as usual and just as I was about to leave the house I noticed another piece of paper lying under the door.

"It's impossible," I whispered puzzled.

Was it another note from Isaac? A part of me was flattered. I took the page and read it without knowing what to expect:

“I can't wait to see you, being away from you is a real ordeal for me, I already want to get close to you so I can caress your hair and touch your lips. Your vanilla perfume drives me crazy, everything in you drives me crazy. We'll be together soon."

I stared at the door, but I was actually thinking about what I had read. It was a very romantic message and it made me feel a little strange because I didn't usually get that kind of attention. I opened the door and looked around, but no one was there so I didn't waste my time anymore and headed to the university.

When I got to my classroom my heart stopped when I saw that Isaac was already there, he was looking at his cell phone and he had saved me a place behind him. From the moment I saw him I was filled with nerves, I knew that was going to happen to me, the classroom was full, but I could only notice him. Isaac raised his head and smiled when he saw me, he looked too handsome, more than normal, I tried to keep my composure, but it was impossible not to melt before that man.

I approached him pretending a serenity that I did not feel and sat in the place that he had reserved for me behind him. Isaac turned around and looked at me with his cute little eyes.

“How are you this morning? He asked normally.”

I started to play with my hair, but stopped when I realized I was giving away my nervousness.

“I am fine, how are you?”

My voice sounded different or was it my imagination? I couldn't help but overthink my actions, I felt as nervous as the first day I realized that I was in love with him.

“I can't complain," he replied with a smile.

What was I thinking? Would he mention everything that happened at Paola's house? I wished I had the power to read his mind. The professor came to our section and everyone began to take their seats.

"The madness begins," Isaac said as he ran his hand through his locks of dark hair. Saying that he turned and looked straight ahead.

I needed to ask him about the note I had found, but I wasn't sure how to do it, I took a deep breath, put all my doubts aside and touched his back. Isaac returned his attention to me and I showed him the page I had found that morning.

“Someone left this for me today at my door, what do you think?”

Isaac frowned and read it quietly as I nervously stroked my neck. When he finished reading, he looked at me with a confused expression.

“Who wrote this to you?” He asked puzzled.

It was not the answer I expected. I was sure he would smile at me and admit to being the author without hesitation.

"I don't know, I'm asking you," I replied with a shrug.

“Do you think it was me? Isaac sounded surprised.”

I was silent and not sure what to answer, he raised an eyebrow and I began to doubt. What if the notes weren't from him?

"Maybe," I admitted.

Isaac was silent for a moment and stared at me.

"It wasn't me, Kim," he finally answered with an amused expression.

"What?" I was too surprised and spoke so loudly that I caught the attention of some of our colleagues.

Isaac kept an eye on the professor, but since we weren't sitting in front he wasn't paying attention to us, so he turned his attention back to me.

"It seems you have a secret admirer," he acknowledged thoughtfully.

"I don't think so, it must be a mistake." Saying that, I tore the note out of his hands and put it away.

“It clearly says, I can't wait to see you there,” he said while making quotation marks with his fingers.

A secret admirer? It had to be a joke.

"I don't even leave my house," I argued skeptically.

"It could be someone from the university, you don't have to deny your suitors," Isaac added with an amused expression, the whole situation seemed to entertain him a lot.

I rolled my eyes and handed him the first note I'd received.

“And what about this one?”

He could accept that the second page was not his own, but he must have been the author of the first yes or yes, he was very sure of that because it coincided too much.

“Is there more? How many notes have you received?” Questioned me with a frown without reading it.

“Just these two, you have not answered my question.”

Isaac read the note in his mind and looked at me with a flirtatious look.

“For heaven's sake, I see that I have a lot of competition. There is another subject deeply in love with you who thinks himself Rubén Darío.”

All the emotion I had was gone in an instant.

“But if it wasn't you, who was it?”

"You should know, they are your suitors, not mine," he explained while laughing.

I tried to remember who had flirted with me and couldn't think of any suspects. In my opinion, nobody was attracted to me, but the evidence I had said otherwise. Had I completely forgotten something important? Apparently my brain had been formatted.

“I don't think you should worry Kim, your secret admirer cannot take long to reveal himself. He's probably dying to show his face, just give him time.”

I didn't know what to answer. I did not want to have another suitor but him.

"Careful, you listen to him," he said as he touched the tip of my rounded nose with his index finger, my eyes widened and the two of us stared at each other for an instant. Our teammates started whispering about us next to us, so Isaac gave me a flirtatious smile and looked straight ahead after giving me that warning. I started to smile without him noticing. It would be very interesting to see him jealous.

When the classes ended Isaac and I left the classroom, and unfortunately we had the bad luck to meet Fernando head-on, he was distracted with his phone, but he looked up and exchanged a look with me, it was too late to pretend not to. He had seen, we were going to the left and he intended to go to the right. Students came and went around us, but that wasn't much help. I froze for a millisecond and wouldn't have known what to do if it weren't for Isaac acting so fast and grabbing my hand.

"Let's eat something my love," Isaac said out of nowhere as he squeezed my hand.

I looked him in the eye and played along without hesitating for a second.

"Of course my love," I replied with a smile.

We both completely ignored Fernando and walked past him without letting go of hands, as we walked down the hall I could feel his eyes on my back and I felt a slight chill, but I never looked back. He was dead to me.

Isaac let go of my hand when we were out of college and I had to remind myself that he wasn't my boyfriend.

"Thank you for saving me, I owe you one," I said with a smile.

“Don't worry, I will make sure to be by your side every time he wants to approach you” Saying that he stroked a lock of my hair, his honey-colored eyes completely enchanted me, how could he make me feel that way without saying or a word? My heart went crazy for the millionth time, if I had opened my mouth to say something I would have said a thousand nonsense atrocities so I opted to keep silent and wait for him to say something. Was he going to kiss me?”

Just at that moment Paola arrived and broke the spell.

“Were you planning to come without me? She asked as she looked at her phone.

Isaac took a step back and shoved his hands into his pants pockets.

"Finally you showed up," he replied.

She had dark glasses and was typing a lot of messages on her cell phone, she seemed to ignore what she had just interrupted.

“I'm starving, could we eat something before we leave or are you in a hurry?” She asked, raising her head.

"I have a couple of paperwork to do, but I'm in no rush," Isaac explained.

"Neither have I," I replied with a shrug.

The boys and I were the unhealthiest people in the world when it came to eating, so we bought a bunch of junk food, went to our favorite place in college, and sat on the grass. I loved that place too much because there were not many students walking around, it was far from the classrooms and we had the shade of a large oak tree. It was a place that gave me a lot of peace and tranquility and allowed me to get fresh air.

Paola and I were always very close since we were little, we were cousins but we looked like sisters, we were both born the same year and we studied together all our lives. When we finished high school we did not want to separate ourselves for anything in the world, but when we got to university reality hit us suddenly and we had to do it because we wanted different careers. Paola entered the computer science degree and I opted for business administration, I met Isaac the first day of school and since then he became my best friend, I have always loved his sense of humor, the ease he had to converse and his sincerity. It didn't take long for me to introduce them both and from then on, we became inseparable. We were always together, in our free time, we went to study in the library and went out for walks on weekends.

The boys were very calm talking about the news of the moment and I was listening to them intently while leaning my back against the oak, but just at that moment a man dressed in uniform interrupted us with a huge bouquet of roses in his hands and went to me.

“Kim Coleman?” He asked.

“Yes, it's me.”

“A secret admirer sends you this,” saying that, he handed me the roses.

“A secret admirer? We are in 2020, please tell me who it was.”

“The client does not wish to reveal his identity. Sign here please.”

I did what he asked and the messenger turned and left as if nothing had happened. I turned to see the boys and they were as surprised as I was.

"Aww, they're very cute," Paola exclaimed delighted. She had been so surprised by the gift that she even forgot what she was saying.

The roses were red and indeed they were very beautiful.

“That's right,” I answered thoughtfully.

“Isn’t there a note inside? Isaac asked curiously.”

I searched among the roses, but found nothing.

“Not even a word,” I replied.

“He's your mystery man, he wants to be noticed,” Isaac explained to Paola's surprise.

She looked at us both without understanding.

“What did I miss?” She asked after a while.

I had to explain to Paola everything that happened with the notes and she couldn't believe that there was someone other than Isaac in love with me at the same time. It would be the most natural thing in the world to have two suitors if it weren't for Isaac witnessing all the gifts this admirer sent me and that was a bit awkward.

“Your mystery man doesn't mind spending money just to surprise you,” Paola analyzed.

I looked at Isaac, but there was no hint of amusement on his face. On the contrary, he looked very thoughtful. Was it someone from the university? Or could it be Ezra? I stroked the petals while I thought. I had never been given roses so it was something new. The mystery man was killing me with suspense.

That night I finished reading a book that interested me a lot and I got ready to go to bed, but suddenly my cell phone started ringing, I took a look at it and was disappointed to see that it was an unknown number, a part of me expected Isaac to call me But he was keeping his word, he said he would give me all the time in the world to think about his proposal and that was what he was doing.

I looked at my phone doubtfully, I had no idea who it was but it could be something important so I answered the call:

"Hi," I replied as I rubbed my eyes.

There was absolute silence on the other end of the line. I frowned, the call was still ongoing and no one was answering. It must be a mistake. I hung up the call, turned off the light, and closed my eyes, but when I was about to fall asleep, my phone started ringing again. I rubbed my eyes and accepted the call, but this time I preferred to remain silent. I waited patiently for someone to speak, but time passed and nothing happened, I rolled my eyes, someone who had nothing to do was playing a joke on me, I hung up the call and took on the task of blocking the number. They didn't bother me again that night, but what I didn't know was that everything in my life was about to change.
