Chapter 9: The Decision
“Landon! No, get away!” I flinched when I woke up to see Landon staring at me. He had his hand on my cheek, but I pushed it away.
“What? What happened?” He backed away and for the first time, he looked terrified.
I scrambled to my feet and looked around. It had been days since I had my last dream, however, this one was horrid.
We were still in the forest where I saw Lucas and his group. Jack decided to travel in the woods to be safe since Lucas worked for Logan. The morning was harsh with fog and cold air.

I didn’t sleep that night. My mind went crazy with the things I learned the other day. As I listened to the night’s song, I could hear Andrew snoring lightly and Landon pacing outside of my tent. How was I going to avoid my feelings with him when he was in love with me? I pushed that thought aside and thought about Robin for the rest of the night. Oh, how I missed him. I ran after him, but I wasn’t fast enough to catch him. Fortunately, Landon could run faster than all of us and caught him with one hand. Jack stopped struggling and went almost limp. I couldn’t help the sympathy that overwhelmed me, but my anger still boiled inside me. I had enough of secrets. I just found out that my own mom had to keep secrets from me. Riley's POV I fought against the burning of my lungs from running for so long and pushed myself to run even further. I had to run fast and far enough to be out of Andrew’s view of my thoughts, but my fighting ended up failing and I collapsed in a little clearing that seemed to be far away from where we were. I sobbed while catching my breath and held myself tight against my chest. The pain of loss was overwhelming and what made it worse was that I was on my own now. No parents. No Jack. No Gabe.
