62. Rest in Peace

Barend, who was watching the ceiling, turned to look at Felen and Abelard, and for the first time in his life he gave his two children a genuine smile. “Thank you… I can finally reunite with the Aghnya.”

Silence took over. Only Barend's low moans and gasps could be heard. After a few minutes had passed, Barend's body was no longer breathing. The man left with a peaceful smile on his lips.

'Easy as that?' Felen's heart screamed pitifully. Between happy and sad, he couldn't decide. He laughed blankly. The dagger in hand fell to the floor, making a loud sound that jolted Abelard out of his reverie.

Abelard reflexively held Felen's body which was almost falling to the floor, shaking uncontrollably making him worry about the girl's psychological state. "Felenia?" he called carefully after sitting Felen on the chair.

"You know, Abelard? I prepared all of this for a long time . . . tediously, with quite a long preparation, but lo ... humans are indeed fragile. They, we, can die easily." Fele
