Chapter 4: Job offer

The battle lasted for roughly two and a half hours. I ended the fierce duel using one, final slash with all the strength left in my body. I managed to cut the Serpent’s head into half as green liquid that seems to be the its blood spurted all throughout the town. Finally, the battle is over. The monster has been annihilated.

I sighed as I let my body lay down on the ground. My entire body aches, particularly my shoulders, legs and all the muscles and bones in my body. Meanwhile, I could hear those people rejoicing by my victory but won’t even bother to go and help me. Talk about ungrateful folks, smh.

I was about to close eyes when I heard someone scream my name. The voice.. it was familiar.. It was Liza! 

“Brother! Can you hear me?” she asked worriedly

I opened my eyes and answered her

“I do. And why are you here little Princess?” I asked

“Well, they won’t help you so I will!” she said as she smiled joyfully. My heart melted again by those simple words of kindness. I did just let her assist me to slowly get up and walk slowly until we heard a shout from behind.

“You! Over there!” 

When we turned, I saw several men in armour spread around the gallant carriage. The carriage door slams open and a white haired gentleman with a shiny crown on his head appears. The Gentleman wore a well-embellished tunic with a gold-work thread. He also wears a stylish scarf and a mantle, on his chest was a shining rose of brooch. On top of it, he wore a surcoat 

on which I think that depicts the emblem of the Nobility based on its design so I assumed he’s one of the Nobles of this land. I can also notice that there are a significant number of guards around this remarkably high classed carriage. The number of guards would go up to ten. This is definitely a big person I can’t mess with.

“How can I help you?” I asked in a respectful manner

The man whom I assumed to be a Noble, cleared his throat before he spoke

“Are you interested in working as a knight?”

“Knight?” I confusingly asked

“Whaaaaaat?”

The man laughed “I saw how you fought the serpent and I hate to say this, but you’re definitely strong. I’d love to have you work for me. What do you think?”

For a moment, I am dumbfounded and didn’t understand what the gentleman just said. While he was looking at me with eyes of excitement and thrill, here am I, in the corner of my mind nervously thinking how I am going to respond to his offer. 

“H-how about I take you to our place!” I uttered

“We can talk it there you know! Besides, I don’t think my body can no longer handle it” I said as I hold my left hand to my right shoulder

“I understand.” he replied

“Guards!” He shouted. Suddenly, four men were around me and carefully carried me.

“Woah! You don’t need to do this!” I said as I refused the gesture

“I insist.” he replied

“Now where’s your home?”
