WHY DID YOU STEAL THE PENDANT?

☠️ CHAPTER FOUR ☠️

Raven left Holden's office after he dismissed her. She was assigned her working desk. 

" Good morning" She greeted the lady on the next desk beside her as she sat down, placing her bag on her desk. The lady she greeted took off one side of her headphone, turning to Raven.

" Good morning" She greeted back.

" And you're are?"

" Raven... Raven Scott" Raven answered.

" Oh, so you're the Boss's new assistant, huh?" The lady chuckled.

" I'm Miley by the way" She introduced and Raven only nodded reluctantly.

" You're really pretty" Miley complimented and that only made Raven uncomfortable as she let out a slight cough.

" Erm..Thanks " Was all she could say.

Well if there's one thing Raven sucks at, then it's making new friends. She literally has no friends. You won't blame her, will you?

" I just hope you'll be able to stay and not get fired like the other assistants before you. Boss is really a psycho you know" Miley whispered the last part to Raven who only huffed.

" I can't wait for that to happen" She mumbled inaudibly.

" I hope" She forced a smile up her lips.

" So will you mind joining us?" Miley asked.

" To do what?" Raven asked.

" Oh, we're working on a new MPC of a game" Miley replied.

" It's a he actually, let me show you" She added and only got a nod from Raven who was feeling so uncomfortable that she feels like peeing on herself.

Raven placed a knock on Holden's door, waiting for his reply.

" Come in" His voice ushered and Raven entered, walking over to him.

Holden's leg was crossed on the table with a cigarette fixed in between his lips, his eyes fixed on the game he was playing. Raven could only frown her brows in disappointment.

" How can he be smoking in his office?" She thought.

" You called for me Boss " She said.

" Take the file on the table. It contains a new avatar I want to add to a game. I want you to creat it before the end of today and report to me" Holden instructed without sparing her a glance.

" Ok" Raven nodded, taking the file on the table. Her eyes landed on the pendant on Holden's neck and it widened.

" Damn! I need to get a hold on that pendant or heavens know I won't be myself" She bit on her lower lip nervously.

" What are you still looking at?" Holden's voice snapped her out.

" Nothing" She replied immediately.

" Then get out, that's all" Holden hissed still not looking up. Raven turned immediately, letting out a deep breath while heading to the door. Holden slowly looked up, letting out a scoff as he watched her leave. Not long after Raven left, Jimmy entered.

" You called for me Boss" He said approaching.

" I need you to get me information about someone" Holden replied, focusing back on his game.

" Raven?" Jimmy asked and Holden shot him a glare.

" Yes. I want to know everything about her" He replied.

" If I may ask Boss, why are you suddenly interested in her? I mean, you came to the office after a whole year just because of her"

" You're not permitted to ask. Fuck off and go get me what I ask for" Holden snapped angrily at him.

" Sorry" Jimmy bowed before leaving.

" Keep on putting on an act. Let's see how long you can go on... Raven"

Holden was busy at home, smoking and drinking as usual. His eyes were already blood shot due to excessive smoking. The bell suddenly rang making him frown deeply. He looked over to the wall clock and it's already 09 pm.

" Who the heck is it by this time?" He muttered.

" Better not be that old fool" He stood up heading to the door and on opening it, he was surprised to see Raven standing by the door.

" What the..."

" What are you doing here and firstly who gave you my address?" Holden asked.

" I came to submit the work you gave me Boss" Raven replied.

" By this time?" Holden scoffed.

" Sorry I finished it late. It wasn't really an easy one and I had to submit unfailingly today like you instructed" Raven apologized. Holden stared at her blankly for sometime before heading back to the sofa, leaving Raven to offer herself in which she did.

Holden resumed his smoking and on stepping in, Raven's eyes started roaming about like she was looking for something. Well, she is looking for something.

" Here are the avatar's I created. You can choose anyone you feel is better" Raven said, bringing out her laptop and opening it, she placed it on the table before Holden.

Holden started going through the different avatar's she created while Raven's eyes kept roaming about everywhere.

" Where the fuck is it?" She thought, biting on her lower lip. Holden noticed her eyes roaming about.

" Are you looking for something?" He asked and Raven looked at him.

" Not really. I'm just admiring the decorations. It is beautiful" Raven chuckled.

" I'll go with this avatar. But make her look a bit taller like as tall as you and her eyes color should be green. Her hair should be dark brown. And oh, I'll like her costume to be matched with a black mask with only her eyes visible" Holden instructed and Raven frowned at him in confusion.

" Are you indirectly making me the avatar?" She couldn't help but ask.

" Am I?" Holden raised a brow at her.

" Yeah, except for the black mask stuff, you're actually describing me"

" Well, my bad then. That's all, you can leave" Holden replied plainly, resuming his smoking.

" I can't leave without getting a hold on that pendant, that was why I came here at the first place. But what I'm I going to do, where I'm I going to find it?" Raven thought and unknowingly pouted. Holden could feel his heart skip a bit on how cute she looked while pouting.

" Why are you still here?" He asked, snapping Raven out of her thoughts.

" I really...Erm...have...erm" Raven stammered, looking for a lie to tell. Holden only frowned at her.

" You what?" He snapped impatiently.

" I really need to use the toilet or I'm gonna pee on myself cause I have bladder issues and can't hold my urine for more than 15 secs..." Holden's eyes widened a bit on what she said.

" That's enough" He cut her off immediately.

" The bathroom is that way" He pointed to the left and Raven rushed to the direction without hesitating.

" Jeez, how can she be so comfortable talking about her bladder problem?" Holden mumbled, resuming his smoking.

Raven stopped on her track on walking past a room whose door was slightly open. Stepping back, she slowly fully opened the door before stepping in. The room turned out to be study room because different books can be seen arranged in shelves and their was a study table with a lamp stand on it and books littered on the table.

On the walls were pictures of definitely unknown people. Raven's eyes widened when it caught something on the table. The one pendant she has been looking for. It was right before her, pleading and begging her to grab it.

Well, she quickly grabbed the pendant and a wave of happiness ran through her. 

" Finally" She almost yelled but pressed her lips together.

" It's really pretty" She giggled staring at the pendant.

" What is pretty?" A voice asked and Raven almost threw the pendant away as her heart digested into her stomach. She quickly slipped the pendant into her bag before slowly turning only to see Holden before her, his hands in his pocket.

" What are you doing here? Or does this place look like a toilet to you?" Holden asked, glaring at her and that only made Raven swallow hard 

" I...Erm... I was... passing...erm..." She tried not to shutter but failed herself and that made Holden glare at her the more.

" I'm so sorry Boss, I didn't mean to enter. I just saw the door open and my curiosity got the best of me. But I swear, I didn't take anything. I was just admiring the pictures" Raven blurted out immediately, her heart skipping fast in fear.

Holden only glared at her suspiciously.

" Get out, now" His cold voice came and Raven bowed before rushing out of the study room. She on getting to the living room, grabbed her laptop before rushing out of the house.

She let out the breath she was holding, her hand on her chest like it was gonna pop out anytime soon.

" That was close" She heaved.

" You what?!" Jade yelled at Raven who was seated on the couch and staring down like a kid being scolded.

" Damn it! Today was just your first day at work and of all things you could do was to steal your Boss's pendant?" Jade ran her hands through her hair in confusion. Raven looked up, her eyes already flooded with tears.

" You're definitely getting yourself fired tomorrow, if possible sent to prison for that... Damn it" Jade added.

" I don't even why I stole the pendant, I don't know what to do with it" Raven mumbled as a strand of tears rolled down her cheeks.

" I tried...I tried stopping myself...I cautioned myself...I told myself " no, don't do but... I couldn't even help it" She sniffed.

"I'm a horrible person sis, a thief...a burglar...a murderer..."

" Suush. It's ok Raven calm down" Jade shushed her immediately as Raven was already choking on her tears, her hands trembling. She was hugging her pillow tightly like she would never let go. Jade took her hands in, massaging them gently.

" Don't cry...ok" She said, titling Raven's head up to look at her. She wiped her tears, caressing her face. She stood up and headed to Raven's wardrobe opened it and brought out a medicine. 

She headed back to the bed, grabbing a glass of water on the table beside.

" Here, take your antidepressants to calm down" She said, handing over two pills to Raven who putting it into her mouth despite her trembling hands, she used the water to flush it down.

" It's not your fault,ok, it's not" Jade said, taking Raven's hands back in.

" That is just an excuse sis. Each and every year, month, day, hour, minute even second, I steal one thing or the other. In as much as I don't want to, I end up doing it. The guilt alone is killing sis..." Raven muttered as another strand of tears rolled down her cheeks. Jade wiped them off immediately.

" Believe me when I say you're not at fault. I know you try all you can to stop stealing but you just can't. I might not understand fully but I know the struggle is hard"

" But maybe it's about time you visit your physiatrist. It's been a month now since you did" Jade suggested and Raven pulled her to a tight hug.

" I'm I a bad person sis?" She asked as another strand of tears rolled down her cheeks. Jade kissed her hair deeply.

" No you're not. You're the most amazing person I know. Despite suffering from depression and amnesia, you try not to lose your joy and you're never tired of helping people out" A faint smile creeped up Raven's lips as she hugged Jade more tightly.

" Then what about the pendant I stole,? I'm sure Boss will notice it soon and he will at once know I was the one who took it" Raven asked, sniffing back her tears.

" You have to take back the pendant, before he notices" Jade replied breaking from the hug.

"But how? How will I be able to do that?" Raven couldn't help but ask.

" I don't know, you know what to do. You just have to sneak back and return the pendant without him even knowing. Besides if there's one thing you're good at, then it is sneaking. You can literally take someone's stuff before them without them even noticing" Raven frowned her brows on what Jade said.

" Is that suppose to be compliment or an insult?" She frowned deeply.

" None of the above. What I meant is, I know you can do it. You're good at it, you have degree in it, so just do what you're good at" Jade shrugged.

" You literally is the worst in consoling the depressed" Raven hissed.

" You know I suck at it. But I'm serious, you really need to return that pendant...soon"

THE NEXT MORNING

Holden after taking his bath, headed downstairs to his study room to grab the pendant he left there yesterday. But he was shocked when be couldn't find it. He ransacked the whole study room but still couldn't find the pendant.

" I thought I kept it here yesterday" He ruffled his hair in confusion.

" Did I eventually removed it?..

" Think Holden, what happened yesterday..." Something rang in his brain immediately.

" Raven!" He exclaimed on remembering seeing Raven in his study room yesterday.

" Why the fuck will she steal a pendant? " He asked no one in particular.

" Damn it! So she's a thief" He cursed. His anger was already boiling at the thought of Raven taking his pendant. That pendant means the world to him and he could literally kill for it. And now he's not gonna hesitate making Raven pay for taking the pendant.

He quickly rushed out of his study room, grabbing the car keys on the table in his living room before rushing out.

Raven swallowed nervously, her hands trembling as she knocked on Holden's office door.

" Come in" Holden's cold voice ushered. Raven breathed out, trying to calm her racing heart. She stepped in.

" You called for me Boss" She said, trying to keep her voice calm and not shutter. Holden who was backing her, turned immediately.

" Why did you take the pendant?" Was the question Holden threw at her without hesitation.

Raven's heart digested into her stomach as something was certain to her;

" SHE WAS DOOMED AND THERE ARE NO TWO WAYS ABOUT IT...
