Chapter 11: Kidnapped with Permission

Evie

“Who was she?” I asked as I sat down on the bed.

He looked at me with confusion. “What do you care about?”

“Well, I am getting married to you.”

He smirked. “I thought this was, and I will quote ‘kidnapping with permission’?”

I rolled my eyes. “It sure is. I just want to make sure I am the only one you kidnap.”

He chuckled. “Wow, you’re interesting.”

“I know right. And I am so damn beautiful. Ain’t I, Damien?”

His gaze shifted to my lips for a second, as if reminiscing our last encounter, and then he looked away. “Yeah, beautiful chicks dig me.”

I raised my eyebrow. “Why is that plural?”

“Why are you jealous?” He looked at me again and I sighed.

Well, only if I knew the answer to that question.

“We’ll leave tomorrow morning. You need help with packing your stuff?”

“Nah. I don’t have much to take. I will buy stuff with your money, after all you kidnapped me, meaning you’ll feed me.”

He tilted his head with a ‘done’ face.

“Well, great to know that, Ms. Kidnapped.”

I smiled innocently and he shook his head, leaving for his room. Irritating him gives me so much pleasure!

Damien

I went to my room and closed the door. A sigh escaped my lips. I don’t know what is so different about Evie — she is just so interesting and so… brave. I mean, I used to scare the hell out of people with one look, and then there she is — calling me all kinds of stuff to my face.

And I don’t say anything. I don’t even mind… I seem to like it.

How?

My hand went up to my lips as I remembered kissing the side of her mouth some hours ago. We had done a lot more than that before, but we didn’t feel all that at that time. It was normal — crazy hot — but normal.

This felt divine.

I sat down and took out my phone.

‘Three missed calls from Amara’

I exhaled. As I unlocked my phone, I saw some text messages from her.

‘Amara:

Damien?

Are you there?

I know you’re angry but this is beyond the both of us. It is about her.

Damien???

Are you ignoring me!?

Damn it, Damien. Fuck you.’

Well, that was an adventure.

I tossed it on the bed and went to take a shower. People fuck me all the time, don’t they?

I made the phone calls and arranged the private plane to Vietnam the next day. I had no idea why I was trying so hard to keep her safe. If she were dead, Marcus couldn’t blame me or force me to marry her.

But I didn’t like that thought for a second.

I wanted her alive.

I wanted to marry her.

And that sucked ass!

“Are you done?” I heard a sweet voice and I turned toward the door. Evie was standing with a wicked smirk.

“This is my room. You need to knock — unless your mind and plans are dirty.”

She shrugged. “Not like you mind me.” She welcomed herself inside and sat on the bed while I looked at her with interest.

“Why are you here?” I asked.

“Amara. Who is she?”

“Seriously?”

She smiled innocently. “Tell me or I will find out for myself.”

“Why don’t you try?” I couldn’t lose the opportunity.

She had the same smile when she came closer and took the phone from my jeans. I didn’t resist because she probably wouldn’t be able to unlock the phone anyway.

She opened it!

My eyes widened and I tried to take it back, but she ran out of the room. I ran behind her and she laughed loudly.

“You’ve—you’ve taken me for a fool?” She panted as we were running for some time in the big house and shouted.

I followed behind quietly. When I realized that she was too engrossed in the phone and kept running without looking forward, I took a shorter route and came in front of her.

When she ran right into me — I held her hand and her eyes met mine.

Her smile vanished and a sincere expression made its arrival. Her eyes were shining like pearls and her lips were as red as roses. Her skin was flawless and her blue eyes were mesmerizing.

I stared back at her with love and none of us broke eye contact for some time. She finally looked away and I took the advantage to take my phone back.

It was a little awkward — even for me — so I changed the topic.

“What’d you find?” I asked.

“That you are a dick for a brother.”

I raised my eyebrow. “Excuse me?”

“That you are—”

“No—No need to repeat that!” I interrupted and she sighed.

“You should call her back. She seems to be worried about something.”

“You have no idea what happened, Evie. You can’t just assume that I am at fault.”

She thought for a moment.

“If you fought with your best friend and he calls you to tell me that I am dying, would you not save me just because you’re angry with him?”

I looked at her confused. “How does that make any sense?”

“What did your mom do? Why aren’t you saving her?”

That question made me silent. I can’t begin to explain my love for her — but I can’t save her. If I try, things can only get worse and I’d rather have her alive and hating me, than dead and still hating me.

“I can’t. I can’t do anything.”

I looked around and walked away. For some reason, I didn’t want her to see me like this.

“I know what you feel,” she said slowly. “My mom? She—she hated me to the core. I know what that feels like but you know what? It doesn’t matter if you could only show up on time and save the day. If only you could be there for her in her time of need.”

I looked back at her. “How do you know she hates me?”

“What else could be the reason?” She was convinced.

“Maybe I just don’t care. Maybe I am just too heartless to give a shit.”

“You can fool the world, but not me, Damien.” Her small smile made me feel special to be able to receive it. “Behind what you show, you’re the kindest and the most caring man this world has ever known.”
