Born Of Fire

I felt everything in me die at her words, my blood stopped flowing, my heart stopped pumping… Every single thing went dead and I could only stare back at the witch with empty eyes.

She took in my expression and burst into another of her horrific laughter.

“Oh dear me! This is more entertainment than I've gotten in a long time.” She paused and watched me. “Don’t tell me all this while, all this time has passed, so many long long years have gone by and all through it that you thought your mother was innocent, oh no, you poor, sweet child.”

“Shut up!” Aunt Aurora said angrily. “Shut the hell up!”

The woman turned to aunt Aurora, her face the epitome of pleasure. “You too Aurora? No, I thought better of you. You should be smarter than the kid, shouldn’t you? It will be pathetic if even you think your sister was falsely accused.“

“You’re lying,” I heard a distant voice say, it took a few seconds to go by before I realized it was mine. It sounded foreign to my ears, small, quiet, broken. “M
