Chapter 21: It Snapped

"I'm sorry," Averill snapped when Laura shook her head as she delivered the result. There... there is no hope that Damien will be able to make it even after the surgery.

Him, being a premature baby— undergoing surgery is already risky, let alone his weak constitution, he might not make it. Instead of prolonging his life, it might even shorten it more.

Averill hopelessly cries in Noah's arms. Noah hugs her tight, hoping that it can comfort the heart of the mother who is losing her firstborn. The baby she took care of inside her for more than twenty weeks. The child she talks to every single night in bed.

She's losing him.

And Noah, with all his money, cannot do anything about it.

"You told me everything's gonna be fine," Averill tells him in remorse. She touches the huge wall of glass that separates them from Damien.

She stares at the kid who looks really tiny inside, with all the tubes connected to him that prolong his life.

"You told me you'll do anything," Noah remains
