Chapter Twenty-one

Eve stretched both her legs on the bed and rested her back on the wall. She looked up to the ceiling and wondered how she would have coped with the entire emotional trauma if her parents were in the city with her. Maybe she would have healed quickly, she thought, because she wasn’t going to let her parents find out about her state. She thought about her father and what kind of groceries he was purchasing at that moment. Ever since her mother fell ill, her father had been doing the best he could when her little sister was working.

Eleanor, her seventeen-year-old sister works as a waitress in one of the restaurants across their street in Texas. She had just finished high school. Eve's elder brother Berry is a nuisance and she barely talks about him.
