78 On The Mission

I arrived at my house in Sunbridge and paid for the cab. I took a few deep breaths before walking into the house. I prayed to the goddess that Karolyn would believe my act and give me what I wanted. It was now or never, and we needed to move fast. I was going to give myself a week and try to get back to Lacy. Hopefully, she will forgive me after this.

"Theo," Karolyn said in her soft voice. She had puffy eyes and ran to hug me. This would have melted my heart in the past, but I wasn't a fool anymore. She had played me long enough, and I was wiser now.

"Why are your eyes puffy?"I asked her, and she rested her head on my chest.

"You startled me when you said you got shot. Are you sure it wasn't Luca?" She said, and I balled my fist but controlled my temper. I stroked her hair, and she led me to the bedroom. Sitting on the bed, I bowed my head. She came to sit beside me and rubbed my back gently.

"Luca would not try to kill me, Karolyn," I said, and her hand stopped.
