I watched as Alexei walked inside the house. His eyes avoided mine, the blood on his clothes and lifeless eyes told me that things were done, his brother was dead. His heart raced against his ribcage with each step he took, and I knew that he was trying to pull himself together to stand strong despite the shock that he was living through. It was one that I wouldn’t want my worst of enemies to live through; therefore, I wasn’t going to let my mate live through it alone.

I went to walk toward him only for Maddie to wrap her hand around my arm, shaking her head at me.
