Annnddd, about the ending of The lycan king, here it goes: in chapter 64, Cordelia asks Willow, "Do you think evil truly ever goes away? Ever dies?" To which Willow says, "I don't know." Cordelia's reply after that is, "No, it lives on in our memories." There you have it. Dmitri only 'lives' in Willow's memories. Literally. He only exists there because as a downside to Willow's powers, she forms a connection with anyone whose memories she's ever looked into.
