"No."

"Pretty pleasee?"

"No."

"Pretty please with a drop of hot lava and some basalts?"

I budged. "I'll think about it..."

Corinne, my roommate and a witch in the same coven as me, squealed and hurried out of the sunny room in a flurry of designer clothes and expensive heels.

Maren, another one of my caste-witches, came in at that moment, chuckling quietly. "You shouldn't always give in to Corinne's demands, you know?"

"Her ceaseless begging would make a coven eunuch beg for quiet."

"Eunuchs are deaf."

"Exactly my point."

She chuckled again, walking into the mostly empty room. "Still, Hell, don't. Corinne's like a parasite. Once she sees you're a perfect enough host, she strikes. With Willow gone, you're the youngest in the coven now and she's exploiting that fact perfectly." She finished with a smile, "But not under my watch."

I pushed a stack of empty cartons over to my bed. Taking one out, I began to cram in my numerous books.

She scoffed. "You're
