CHAPTER ELEVEN

I stare at the dead man in my bed. My husband. The alpha. I killed him.

Suddenly, I don't know what to do.

How will I get out of here?

Two dead bodies.

Both killed by my hands.

If I am discovered, the pack will tear me limb from limb.

I run to the window. Peer out.

I look at the great drop.

I picture myself falling to my death.

I picture my body lying broken on the ground.

There is only one way out. Back past the wedding party.

I hitch up my dress and hurry out the room.

I reach the great hall.

The doors are all open.

The guests are still dancing.

I race past them unnoticed.

I run through the mansion doors.

I run across the lawn.

I run as fast as I can.

My heart is in my mouth.

I hear the music behind me.

I hear laughter.

The drunken singing.

They do not yet know the alpha is dead.

I keep running.

I never want to see that place again.

I reach the fence and climb over.

I can see the tree.

I head for them. For the woods.

Before I know it, I am in the trees.
