Arlari’s POV

The next morning, the mansion carried its usual stillness. Every corner seemed sharper, every shadow longer.

It wasn’t just the morning quiet; it was the weight of what Matteo could be planning and the knowledge that a mole might be feeding him information from inside.

Danny was already up, pacing the hall like he did every day. His shoes clicked softly on the polished floor, but the sound felt loud in the quiet mansion.

“Arlari, I don’t get it. Why are you still here?” His voice was sharp, anxious.

“I’m busy,” I said quickly, trying to sound normal, though my stomach knotted.

He frowned. “You’re always busy. But why here? It’s… scary.”

Irene appeared beside him, calm as ever, putting a hand lightly on his shoulder. She didn’t say a word, but her presence grounded him. I gave her a small nod of thanks.

I had to focus. They didn’t know anything about Matteo, the mole, or the danger that laced every corner of this place. They weren’t supposed to.

I shifted the topic. “Irene

Arlari’s POVSleep came easily. Smooth. It dragged me under without warning, pulling me back into that familiar dark place my mind never forgets. The same room. The same smell. The same helpless waiting. I was small again. Too small to understand. Too small to understand why blood could keep spilling and spilling and still not be enough.I heard the doctors. I heard the panic. I heard my mother’s breathing change. I felt the fear before I understood death. I screamed. My body jolted awake violently. My throat burned from the sound that tore out of me. My chest heaved as if I had been running for miles. My hands flew to my mouth, teeth sinking into my nails before I could stop myself. My legs pulled in tight, my nails scratching hard into my thighs, dragging lines that stung, grounding me in pain because pain was better than memory.I was shaking. Badly. Before I could curl in fully, arms wrapped around me. Strong. Firm. Unmoving. I fought for half a second out of instinct, breath com

Arlari’s POVPain has its own language. It does not scream. It presses. It pulses. It sits behind the eyes and reminds you, again and again, that your body remembers even when you want to forget. They brought me back just before dawn. The sky outside was pale, unsure of itself. The kind of light that feels fragile. I was placed on a bed that was too clean, too white. It smelled of disinfectant and something faintly metallic. My head throbbed like a drum being struck from the inside. Every beat of my heart sent pain across my skull. I squeezed my eyes shut, but darkness did not help. The pain followed me there too, even when I tried to breathe slowly. In. Out. Like I was taught. It barely worked. The room was quiet except for the soft sounds of movement. A doctor. Not him. Not the one who betrayed us. This one spoke in a calm voice, explaining things I already half knew. The device was gone. Removed carefully. No permanent damage, he said. The headaches were a reaction. Trauma. Pressure

Severiano’s POVBetrayal always smells the same.It is not loud. It does not announce itself. It lingers, quiet and patient, waiting for the exact moment to rot everything it touches. The guard sat across from me, wrists bound, sweat running down his temples. His bravado had drained hours ago. Fear had replaced it. Real fear. The kind that understands time is no longer an ally.I said nothing, because silence is a weapon people underestimate. He cracked first. “I didn’t plan it,” he blurted. “I swear. I just followed orders.”I leaned back slightly. “From who?”He swallowed hard. “Matteo.”The name landed heavy, but not surprising. Matteo always liked to move his hands without dirtying them. Revenge. I knew he would want one soon.“Talk,” I said calmly. “Or this ends.”His voice shook. “When she fainted. That day at the party after she was attacked in the ladie`s toilet. Your doctor was called. It was planned. He said it was a medical emergency.”My spine stiffened. The doctor. Docto

Arlari’s POV“Arlari,” he called softly. My eyes lit up with curiosity. Anticipation. Hope. My heartbeat did a somersault.I nodded, adjusting myself on my knees.“I don't trust promises,” he began. “I trust action.”My heart sank. That wasn't a verdict, not yet.He sat up in his chair and leaned in a little. Close, but not too close. Close enough for me to hear him loud and clear. “Your brother`s life is in your hands,” he said. “Act or he dies.”My hope shattered like a vase of flowers falling from a stand.I stared at him. Quiet. Confused. Speechless.Without another word, he gestured to the door. I was dismissed just like that. I dragged myself out of his study. The moment Severiano had released me from the cell, I knew my freedom was fragile. Danny was safe, for now. That was all I had. Every step I took, every word I spoke, had to be thought through. I could not afford another mistake. One slip, and everything would fall apart.I spent the next few days watching. Not openly. No

Arlari’s POVA week passed before they opened the cell.Seven days of cold floors that leeched warmth from my bones. Seven nights where sleep came in broken pieces, each one haunted by footsteps that never arrived. Seven mornings where I woke up disoriented, my heart racing, unsure if I would be dragged out screaming or simply left to rot.Time did strange things in that place. It stretched and folded in on itself until minutes felt like hours and hours felt meaningless. Hunger dulled into a constant ache. Fear sharpened instead. It sat in my chest like a second heart, beating too fast, too loud. When the door finally opened, I didn’t feel relieved. I felt hollow.Rafael stood there, framed by light that hurt my eyes. His expression was carved from stone. No pity. No warmth.“You are released,” he said. “This is not forgiveness. This is a chance.”A chance. The word tasted bitter.I nodded because my voice didn’t trust itself. My legs trembled as I stood, muscles protesting after days

Arlari’s POVI fell to my knees before I even understood what was happening. My body moved on instinct, like it knew the verdict before my mind could catch up.Fear shoved me down hard. The cold marble floor burned through the thin fabric of my clothes, biting into my skin like punishment already underway.I gasped as the air left my lungs, my chest seizing, my hands trembling so badly I couldn’t press them flat against the ground. This couldn’t be real. This had to be some cruel misunderstanding. Some twisted test.“I didn’t know,” I sobbed. The words tore out of me, broken and jagged. “I swear I didn’t know how it got on me.”My throat felt raw, like I had already been screaming for hours.Severiano stood across the room.Still. Silent. He watched me the way people look at things that are already lost. Already decided. Like my fate had been sealed the moment the bug detector screamed.“I would never betray you,” I said, my voice cracking apart as tears streamed freely down my face.
