"You seriously want to go against me now? How much worse can you get, Ryker?!" My father barked from across the room, his face red from anger. Or maybe frustration. But I couldn't care less. Not when he was mad that his son was finally paying for his crimes. "Catherine just developed a stroke. All because of you. You caused this upon us. You chose an outsider over your family. Over the company."

I let out a slow breath, almost a laugh—low, humorless. Like he had just dropped the most baseless facts of the century.

"I caused this? Okay. But you think taking a title from me will make me back down from what I intended?" I asked quietly. "You think a chair and a name are enough to scare me into protecting a man who brutalized a woman?"

"Derek is your brother for fuck's sake!"
