The ride back to Miles's suite was quiet. The streetlights outside kept flashing through the window, throwing stripes of light across the car. Miles didn't say much.

My head was still buzzing from the alcohol and the noise in my chest wouldn't stop.

When we got in, Miles dropped his jacket on the chair and went straight for the minibar.

"You staying here tonight?" he asked.

"Yes."

"Right. You shouldn't go back like this, else she might probably throw you out."

I didn't answer. I just sat down on the couch, elbows on my knees, staring at the floor. My hands were still stained with faint red smudges. I rubbed at them but the marks didn't really fade.

The room was quiet except for the sound of ice clinking as Miles poured another drink. I leaned back, closed my eyes for a second, and reached for my phone.

I dialed Cole's number.

He picked up fast like he'd been waiting. "Sir."

"She's there?" I asked.
