Chapter 116: Clock It, Forever

last update Last Updated: 2026-01-05 03:43:59

Aurelia’s POV

I managed to put together lunch, though Cassia barely touched hers. She kept tapping her nails on the table, glancing at the clock every two minutes.

“Cass, relax,” I said, pouring her a drink. “You’ve met his parents before.”

“I know,” she groaned, pushing her plate away. “But for some reason, I’m having this weird anxiety attack. Like I forgot how to breathe properly.”

I smiled. “That’s unlike you.”

“Exactly! It’s freaking me out,” she muttered, pressing a hand to her chest.

“Still,” I said softly, “try to relax. You look stunning even when you panic.”

That made her laugh a little.

After we ate, I managed to convince her to lie down for a bit. “Just twenty minutes,” I told her, tucking a pillow under her arm like she was a child. She nodded, mumbling something about me being bossy before drifting off.

While she napped, I cleaned up the kitchen, packed away the leftovers, and enjoyed the quiet hum of the apartment. Then my phone beeped.

A message from Julien.

Aurelia’s POVSleep refused to come. My body felt alive, humming with leftover joy, the proposal, the gifts, the laughter, everything. It was like happiness had moved into my bloodstream and was refusing to let go.I turned slightly and found Julien watching me in the dim glow from the bedside lamp. His hair was tousled, his eyes soft and curious.“You said Lawrence is their only child?” he asked, voice low and lazy.“Yes,” I said, brushing my fingers over his chest absentmindedly. “But he grew up surrounded by cousins, so he never really felt alone.”Julien nodded, his thumb tracing idle circles on my arm. “It’s obvious his parents love children. You can tell from the gifts they gave.”“I know, right?” I said, smiling at the thought. “Cassia’s future kids are going to be so spoiled.”He smiled. I turned my head to look at him properly. “Actually… her mother-in-law reminds me of you.”“Me?” He looked adorably confused.“Yes,” I said softly. “She’s warm, kind, thoughtful… the way she

Aurelia’s POVWhen dinner finally ended, the lights dimmed to a soft amber glow and staff began handing out small gift bags tied with satin ribbons. Everything about the night felt surreal, like something out of a romance movie where the credits were about to roll.“I’ll send you the video,” Lawrence said to me with a grin.Cassia’s eyes widened instantly. “Wait, there’s a video?”He smirked. “You didn’t notice the content creator?” He pointed toward a guy adjusting his camera by the side of the garden. Only then did I realize, it was the same one I’d hired for Cassia’s birthday shoot.Cassia gasped dramatically and smacked his chest. “Oh Lawrence, I swear I’m going to fuck you so hard you won’t be able to walk tomorrow!”My jaw dropped and I burst out laughing, covering my face with my hand. “Cassia!” I hissed between laughs, completely mortified but dying inside because this was so her.She giggled, cheeks flushed, eyes glassy from champagne and joy. That was Cassia, either saying

Aurelia’s POV“About the person who released the photos… any news?” I asked, my voice low.He exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck. “No. I just don’t understand why it’s so hard to trace them. It’s like the pictures were dropped physically, right in front of the press offices. No trace, no sender, nothing.”I swallowed hard. “Hmm,” was all I managed, but my chest felt tight. He looked at me for a long moment. “Don’t worry,” he said softly, his thumb brushing my hand. “We’ll find whoever did this. I promise.”Hours later, there was a sound of a car in the driveway.“Mummy, are you okay?” Oliver asked, his voice sweet and worried.I smiled weakly. I could still feel how swollen my eyes were. “Yes, baby. Mummy just has a little headache,” I whispered, pressing a kiss to his forehead. He nodded and ran off to play with Julien, his laughter echoing faintly through the living room. I scrolled aimlessly through my phone, pretending not to think. Cassia had texted, asking if we could go sho

Aurelia’s POVI had made it to the sitting room, ready to leave, when she stopped me.“Look, Aurelia,” Mrs. Knightley said softly, her voice calm but firm, “I’m not a mean person. I just want the best for my son.” She picked up a paper from the side table and approached me. “This is a check, fifty million dollars. Consider it… for your troubles. Just let go.”I forced a small, polite smile, keeping my voice steady. “You don’t have to compensate me, Mrs. Knightley. I also want the best for him.”With that, I quietly left the house. The cold evening air hit me as I slid into my car. I gripped the steering wheel, trying to keep myself together, but tears blurred my vision. I wiped them quickly, forcing myself to focus, and managed to drive back home.Once inside, I collapsed against the door, sliding down until I sat on the floor. The hot, stinging tears I had been holding back finally poured freely. My phone rang somewhere beside me, but I ignored it, tossing it aside like it didn’t mat

Aurelia’s POVThat evening, I was on call with Julien, telling him what had happened earlier.“She actually went to the disciplinary team,” he said, his tone a mix of disbelief and irritation. “Filed a complaint that your department harassed her. I told them to drop it.”I chuckled softly. “You didn't believe her?”“Come on, Aurelia. It’s Isolde. Drama is her oxygen,” he sighed.“Indeed,” I said, letting out a quiet laugh. The next morning, I went down to the lab to run a few tests for a new project. The air was crisp, the machines humming, and for a while, it was peaceful, just me and my focus.Until her heels clicked in.The moment I saw Isolde stride in, I simply adjusted my gloves and continued what I was doing. I didn’t even glance up.She sat across from me, her reflection glaring through the glass divider. “Look,” she began, voice low and venom-sweet, “I get it. It’s rare to find a man like Julien. But clearly, no one wants you. And sooner or later, he will be mine. Why are yo
