“Hi, Jules,” Ryle said and I recoiled.

He raised his hands in mock offense but the smile never fell from his face.

“Long time no see. I would have you know… preferred we met on–“

“What do you want?” I spat, standing straight.

“Is that how you’ll thank me for saving your life?”

“No,” I stepped forward. “This is my way of saying screw you.”

I tried to leave but he caught my wrist, and I yanked it away.

Ryle turned, his blue eyes locking with mine for a split second. “I am not the enemy, Julia. I can however, help you fight off the enemy,”

“Save your theatrics for someone who cares,”

“Atlas for example?” he spat and I froze. “We both cared about him and what did he do?” Ryle circled me. “He married my wife,” He gestured at me, “and abandoned her to die,” He pointed at the railing.

“You’ll never be half the man he is,”

“Even now, you defend him. What does he have, Julia? What makes him special? So… worth dying for.”

“He doesn’t fake his death, or vanish for six years and reappear lik

My heart stopped beating and I slumped against the ground. Surely, Atlas couldn’t say that. Right? That voice didn’t even really sound like him. Atlas was never cold. He loved me, he…My mind drifted to when he returned from the Island, it was a complete contrast to when he came to the courtroom. It felt like there were two different Atlas. I didn’t know who was speaking and that thought broke me all over again. “We have your wife. Are you sure you don’t —”The line died before the man could finish and he groaned, marching over to me. He grabbed my hair and I winced. “I guess you’re worth nothing after all. Even your husband wants nothing to do with you!” A tear rolled down my cheek as my heart twisted in my chest. Who was I kidding? It had to be Atlas. Who else would it be? But, when did Atlas stop loving me? Did the past few years and all the moments we spent together mean nothing? He… he abandoned me again, After so many months of building trust, he snatched it all away in

9 months later. “Call him again!” I shrieked as the nurses wheeled me into the OR. Greta sniffled. “I’ve called him already, he’s coming Julia—““No!” I cried, my hands digging into the stretcher, my lower half aching as if a trailer crashed into me. “You’re lying so I stay calm, right?” I hiccuped. Greta shook her head, wiping my tears. “Just hang on, okay?” She begged: “They have the best doctors here and—““I want my husband, Greta!” I sobbed as we got closer to the operation theatre. I wasn’t sure if I was referring to the Atlas from the courtroom or the one who returned from that trip nine months ago. Greta and I had narrowed down multiple possibilities. It was so bad, that we considered it a split personality disorder. Because that’s how pathetic I’d become. I found myself searching for the same man who saved me in the courtroom and made me feel special for the past nine months.I hadn’t found him. Atlas vanished after the doctor left and when he returned, he had the same

“All the evidence is there, your honor,” Atlas said and I watched as the Judge scanned the documents. I held my breath and Atlas glanced at me, our eyes locked and he reassured me with a smile. In a moment, I felt lighter and realized — this was what trust tasted like. It was holding on, it was waiting, it was hope clad in a three-piece suit and green eyes that softened for only me. The Judge slammed his gavel and the soft murmurs silenced. He cleared his throat. “Given all the evidence submitted —”“Your honor, please wait. How can they bring all these evidence when the witness said —”“Your witness was fired by the picnic company due to misconduct,” Atlas cut in, turning to the woman, to be continued. “Right, Mrs. Melissa?” The woman paled in front of Atlas. Something flickered in her eyes and I frowned. Was it the fear of being exposed or something else? “Y-Yes.”“You are fired because you had a habit of stalking residents and blackmailing them, right?”“Objection, your hono

I tapped my feet on the ground as the judge sat down. A lump grew in my throat, lingering there as his eyes swept over the jury, finally landing on my lawyer. I leaned against the older man. “What’s going on? The persecutor hasn’t even arrived,”“I’m as confused as you are, Madam. I wonder what strings they are trying to pull. Rest assured, you’ll leave here a free woman.”I nodded and faced the Judge but my mind retreated to last night. When Louis said that, I was stumped. I even went as far as asking Atlas to take off his shirt in the morning. As I expected, his birthmark was right there.I wasn’t sure if Louis was confused or if something had happened between midnight to dawn. I wanted to check at the exact moment Louis said it but I also didn’t want to disturb Atlas. He went out of his way to organize a birthday party for the kids and It didn’t feel fair to startle him awake. Either way, it was a closed case. Atlas was Atlas and I wanted to forget I even assumed he wasn’t. Th

“Do you like it?” Atlas grinned, gesturing at the decorations. After we returned from the mall, he apologized to the kids and even played soccer with them. Now, we were at the terrace and I managed a smile as my eyes traced the decorations. At this point, I was sure it was all in my head. Atlas could never be Ryle and Ryle could never be Atlas. Greta had a point too, people dealt with stress differently and for the past few months, we had been all over the place. I leaned against his broad chest, hugging him. “I missed this,” I admitted, looking up.He traced my cheek and I captured his lips into mine, he reached for my hair, pushing me forward and deepening it.“I got you something,” he grinned, walking off. When Atlas returned, he was holding a bouquet. My stomach twisted as I registered the flowers. Lilies.Atlas bought me lilies? I was allergic to Lilies. Atlas knew this so how could he?“What's wrong?” he frowned, raising an eyebrow. “You don’t like them?”“I… I’m allergic, A

“Something’s wrong, Greta,” I said as we walked into the mall. She spun and held my hands, “Everyone responds to stress differently.” I shook my head. I tried to make multiple excuses for Atlas but none felt logical. The change was too drastic, it was almost as if it wasn’t Atlas. But, that’s not possible, right? “Look,” she hooked her arms into mine, gesturing at the sight of designer dresses and the kids racing around the mall. “We are here to relax and have fun. Besides, if Atlas didn’t care, he wouldn’t use his connections to push back the trail so we could…”About that. Atlas managed to push back the trail because he had a surprise. I hoped he was going to explain everything. “Look at this one, mommy!” I turned to see a long red dress covering Leo. “You’ll look so pretty!”I reached for it and Greta nudged me. “Give it a try.”“Fine,” I crouched. “But only because my sweet boy chose it.”I was about to enter the dressing room when a worker approached us. “Sorry, that dress
