After Leah and Zara had gone home, I sat by myself the whole night trying to make a proper CV and apply for jobs online. I stared at my CV for a brief moment before concluding that it was okay. After searching for hours, one job posting caught my attention.

ASSISTANT MANAGER–BELLMONT HOTEL

I clicked on it immediately and scrolled through the requirements. I met some of the requirements, but whatever happens, happens.

I took a deep breath and clicked apply.

Hours had passed, and I hadn’t realize

Rita’s POVI looked up from my phone, expecting to see a strict looking man for the interview, but Nick walked in. My shoulders relaxed, at least I knew one person in the room. Our eyes met and he gave a small nod before taking a seat.He must be part of the recruitment team. My eyes remained fixed at the door waiting for someone else to walk in.Another man walked in, also dressed in a black suit. “Good morning, Miss Morgan. I am Mr. Briggs.” He offered a handshake. I stood and took his hand. “Good morning, Mr. Briggs.”He took a seat across from me. “We…” he gestured towards himself and Nick. “… would like to begin the interview.”“I’m ready, sir.”He cleared his throat. “Why do you want this job?”“Because I need a fresh start.” I glanced at Nick, then I realized my response sounded too personal.“I mean… I want to build something new for myself. I’ve spent too much time depending on someone else. I want to do this on my own.”I glanced at Nick again I saw a hint of a

Nicholas’s POVTwo weeks earlier…I sat at the far corner of my restaurant, observing like I always did. I had come down from my office to check on a few things when the automatic doors opened and a couple walked in. I noticed the woman first, the way her dark brown hair fell down her shoulders, and how perfectly she walked on heels. She walked beside the man she came with, smiling at something he had said. When I looked closer at the man, I knew I had seen that face a few times. Dan Gordon.I had seen him at the restaurant before, but never with her. I noticed his demeanor around this woman was different, like he was trying to be too careful. I watched as they ate. The way she leaned closer whenever he had something to say, and how he barely looked at her.His eyes were mostly on his phone whenever she wanted to take a bite. And when she caught him, he would turn the screen over and fake a smile like it was nothing. When her hands reached out to touch his, he either had to qui

My eyes widened when I saw a mail from Bellmont hotel exactly twenty-five minutes ago.“Dear Miss Rita Morgan,We have received your application for the assistant manager position at Bellmont Hotel. “I got food for everyone,” Zara said excitedly as she walked into my room.It was some grilled chicken and rice on the side, with soda.“Told you guys I would make it up to you,” she said with a smile as we ate silently. “How was the club party?”“Good,” I said as I chewed.Leah shot me a look, and I knew she wanted to talk about Nick but I shook my head instead, so she started another conversation.“So when do you plan on confronting Dan?” Leah asked and they both shot me a look.“I don’t know, guys. I need to make sure my mind is strong enough to face him.” I took another bite.“You should do it over a text,” Zara suggested, and Leah agreed.“Yeah, that way he’ll think you don’t care and he’ll never get to see how much you’re actually hurting.”I sighed heavily. “Maybe I will.”“Matter of fact,” Zara sat up. “I think we should do it right now.”I ran my hand over my face. “I don’t think I’m ready right now.”She grabbed my phone. “You don’t have to be. You can just watch us do it fo

I woke up that morning to the soft hum of my alarm clock. It was 7:00 a.m. Leah got up at the same time. We had spent the night at my house just like we planned.“Gosh, my body aches so badly,” she complained. “I literally had to rest my head on those uncomfortable chairs.”Then a text came in from Dan. “Hey baby. I had a really busy Zoom meeting last night. I got so tired that I fell asleep right after. I’ll call you when you’re up. Love you.”I stared at those words for a brief moment before putting my phone down. At that point, I was not so surprised by whatever lies he had planned to tell me. He probably fell asleep because he got so tired fucking another woman last night, but what do I care?“Was that him?” Leah asked.“It was no one.” I tossed the phone onto the bed and got up.“You know you eventually have to confront him, right?” Leah sat up in bed with her messy hair in her face.“Maybe,” I breathed. “Right now I have better things to do. Now get up so I can make my bed.”“Ug

“May I?” He gestured towards a seat, but I didn’t respond.“Isn’t that too many shots for a pretty young girl?” He took the seat across from me.And how was that any of his concern? I thought to myself.“I guess so.” I poured another shot.“This looks a lot like heartbreak.” He sat back comfortably.“How did you…”“Most of the people here either came to party or watch the strippers, and you’re doing none of that, so I’m assuming you’re here to drink away your pain.”I tried to pour another shot but he stopped me and set the glass away from me.I frowned. “Why are you here?”“Nice to meet you too.” He sat up with a small smile.“That’s not what I asked,” I hissed. “Let me have my glass.”“Not until you tell me who hurt you this way.” His response was unreadable.“And why would I describe my pain to a total stranger?” I shifted in my seat, already growing impatient.“Stranger?” He paused, then leaned forward to offer me a hand. “I’m Nick.”“Sure,” I responded.“Is that all?”“What do yo
