"Come on, cousin, you can do this."

Valentine sounds disgustingly cheerful for somebody currently torturing me.

I glare at her from where I'm lying face down on a training mat, spread-eagled leaving a me shaped sweat patch. My entire body hurts. Literally every single muscle I possess has entered a formal complaint with management. Five days of lessons, lectures, history, politics, pack structure, wolf biology, combat drills, endurance training and discovering that apparently becoming a werewol

  • Alpha Brat   The Truth, Fully

My chest’s tight with affection. These men notice everything about me, adjust themselves constantly to meet needs I haven't even articulated, and somehow make it look effortless. Ezra's fingers press a little harder against my scalp, and I tilt my head back to look at him. His dark eyes are already on me, watching with that intense focus that makes me feel like I'm the only thing in the world that matters, and he gives me the smallest smile. It transforms his usually severe face into something softer, something that makes my heart kick hard against my ribs.Corrian returns a few minutes later, and the energy in the room reacts to him. He's not broadcasting distress or anger or anything obvious, but we feel it anyway. There’s been a change, and it’s significant. I start to sit up, my body responding to the tension, but Ezra's hand on my shoulder gently pulls me back down. His fingers resume their massage as he tries to keep me calm. Here in this moment of peace for as long as possi

  • Alpha Brat   Butter & Brown Sugar

The house smells like butter and brown sugar when we finally make it back from the training ring, all of us sweaty and exhausted and somehow more connected than we were before. Jax disappears into the kitchen with the kind of enthusiasm that suggests he's about to create something either amazing or catastrophic, and within minutes the scent of whatever he's baking fills the entire first floor. River showers first, then Leo, then me, and by the time I emerge in soft leggings and one of Ezra's enormous hoodies that hangs to my knees, the living room has been transformed. The massive sectional sofa that dominates the space is covered in blankets and pillows, and someone has dimmed the lights to that perfect golden glow that makes everything feel warm and safe. Jax appears from the kitchen carrying a tray loaded with fresh cookies, popcorn, cut fruit, and what looks like homemade brownies, and I'm struck by how domestic this all is. How normal. Five massive alpha wolves and their mate

  • Alpha Brat   Pack Run

"Close your eyes," Jax instructs, his voice dropping into something more serious. "Focus on your breathing. Feel your wolf inside you. I know you can feel her, she's right there under your skin. Picture her. What does she look like? What color is her fur? How does she move?"I close my eyes and try to follow his instructions. My wolf is there, just like he said, pressing against the inside of my skin like she's trying to claw her way out. I can feel her impatience, her frustration, her desperate need to be free. I try to picture her. Dark fur, I think, maybe black or deep brown. Strong and fast and powerful. But the moment I reach for her, the moment I try to let go enough to actually shift, something slams down inside me. A wall. A barrier. A fundamental refusal to surrender that much control.I try again. And again. And again. Each time I get close to that edge, close to letting go, something inside me panics and pulls back. It's like standing at the edge of a cliff and trying to c

  • Alpha Brat   Shifting's Easy, Right?

“Aren’t you, mate?”I turn to find Leo standing at the edge of the ring, and my breath catches in my throat the way it always does when I see him. He's massive in a way that defies reasonable explanation, all muscle and scars and raw masculine power wrapped in a package that looks like it walked straight out of a Viking saga. His dark hair is pulled back in that signature undercut, the sides shaved close while the top is long enough to be gathered into a thick braid that falls all the way down to the back of his thighs. He's shirtless like Jax, wearing only a pair of dark pants. His eyes find mine across the distance, pale and intense, and I feel pinned by the weight of his gaze."I'm not afraid," I say automatically, even though we both know it's a lie.Leo doesn't respond. He just walks into the ring with that predatory grace that makes it clear he's never been prey in his entire life, and when he reaches us he stops close enough that I have to tilt my head back to maintain eye cont

  • Alpha Brat   Afraid

The training ring that sits at the edge of the property is some kind of fever dream someone had after watching too many underground fighting movies and deciding the aesthetic needed more pine trees. When I first saw this place, I was too busy taking in the man meat inside it to really pay attention. In front of me is what I can only describe as a mini sumo ring on steroids, a massive dirt clearing surrounded by a circle of pine trunks that have been sunk deep into the earth, each one thick as my torso and stripped of bark until they're smooth and pale. Between the trunks, thick netted fencing stretches upward, creating an enclosed space that's rustic and vaguely threatening. Fight club chic but make it mountain lodge. The dirt inside the ring has been packed down hard from what I assume are countless training sessions, and the whole thing smells like earth and pine sap and something wilder. My wolf stirs at the scent, recognising something in it that my human brain hasn't caught up

  • Alpha Brat   Not Going Anywhere

He goes completely still. Every muscle locks, every breath suspends, every part of him freezes like I've just said something impossible. I've spoken words he never expected to hear. The silence that follows is so complete I can hear my own heartbeat thundering in my ears, can hear the distant sound of the others moving around in the main house, can hear everything except him breathing.I say it again, because he needs to hear it. Maybe he didn't believe it the first time."I love you, Ezra." My voice is steady now, certain, carrying all the emotion I've been holding back. "Thank you for protecting me from everything that might hurt me. But I need you to be a person too. I need you present, not consumed by vengeance. Need you here, with me, not drowning in rage and guilt."The words hang in the air between us, and for a long moment nothing happens. He doesn't move, doesn't speak, doesn't give me any indication that he's even heard me. He explodes into motion.Spins in the chair so fa
