Chapter 2

Author: Magnolia
Sophia nestled into Oliver's arms, smugness shining in her eyes.

Oliver carried her off to one side to rest, and then a few men walked into the freezer, grinning cruelly.

I clutched my pajamas and curled into the corner.

I had been frozen so long that I no longer had the strength to fight off a group of men.

With the sound of tearing fabric, I was left in nothing but a thin camisole.

The freezing air sank straight through my pores and into every corner of my body.

A vicious excitement showed on the men's faces.

On their way out, they grinned back at Oliver.

"Alpha, our Luna's got a great body, curves in all the right places, and such smooth skin too."

"Thanks, Alpha, for the chance to take care of the Luna. She'll definitely learn her lesson this time."

In a camisole and cropped sleep pants, I curled my body into a tight ball.

I could feel myself losing heat, my skin even starting to fuse to the freezing floor.

The slightest movement peeled off a patch of it.

The piercing pain ran through my flesh and set me shaking all over.

Bright, warm blood seeped from the skin that had been torn away.

In that frost-whitened glass room, the little smear of dark red stood out, unbearably stark.

I had no strength left, and all I could do was huddle on the ground.

Oliver seemed to sense my discomfort. He let Sophia out of his arms and stepped forward.

His gaze fell on the red seeping thin beneath the ice, and he started to say something.

But Sophia threw herself forward first, pressing against the frost-caked glass.

With a trembling fingertip she pointed at the smear of red, her voice shaking apart.

"Luna, just admit you were wrong. Why are you so stubborn? This is clearly your fault, and Oliver is only being fair. Aren’t you deliberately putting him on the spot by acting like this?"

I looked at the woman in front of me, trembling, and couldn't hold back a cold laugh.

"Where exactly did I go wrong? That day with the AC, weren't you wearing his coat too, telling your friends—"

Hearing me, Oliver frowned and turned to Sophia, as if he wanted to ask her something.

But before I could finish, Sophia dropped straight to her knees in front of me.

Then she raised her hand and started slapping her own face over and over.

"It's my fault, all of it is my fault. Alpha, I can't bear to watch you and Luna end up like this, to see her suffer so much. If she still won't admit she was wrong, then I'll kneel here with her until she does."

Seeing how sincere she seemed, the doubt that had just risen in Oliver vanished at once.

He even nervously swept her up in a bride-style carry, then looked at me with disgust all over his face.

"Grace, look at yourself. Is there one shred of a Luna left in you? You've simply been spoiled rotten by your family. You should know Sophia and I have only ever been colleagues, and she's always swallowed her pride in front of you. You're the one in the wrong here, and she's suffering alongside you just so I won't be put on the spot. You truly are despicable."

After a moment's thought, Oliver seemed to reach a decision.

"Today I'm going to teach you a real lesson and show you that the world does not revolve around you. If you won't admit you were wrong, I will never let you out."

With that, he waved a hand at the Beta behind him.

"Go and drop the freezer temperature even lower, and throw in some ice blocks. If she wants to play the victim, then freeze her to the floor so she can't move at all. Who is the act even for?"

The moment Oliver finished, the Beta's expression turned strange.

He drew a deep breath and shook his head.

"Alpha, if we lower the temperature and add ice, the Luna will be in real danger. Her skin will take serious damage, and tearing more of it away will badly hurt her body. There's something off about all this too, and the Luna keeps trying to tell us something. We could end up with a disaster on our hands."

Oliver looked genuinely shaken, and just as he hesitated, Sophia let her tears fall, a small sob in her breath.

"He's right, Alpha. I'm only your subordinate, and there's no reason for you to go this far for my sake. The ICU honestly wasn't so bad, so think of it as a rest."

Her words flipped Oliver's expression once more, and he spoke in a cold, warning tone.

"So now you won't even listen to me? Do exactly what I just said."

The instant the words left me, I suddenly felt so light. It was the calm that comes after the deepest disappointment.I really had let this love go.Oliver hadn't expected me to answer him that way.The hand that had been holding mine slowly slid away. When he looked up at me again, he couldn't hold back his tears."This is a joke, right, Grace? We—""Go to the Moon Goddess and undo the mark. Let's make the divorce official."As I said it, the very last shred of feeling collapsed all at once.Countless times I had leaned against the windowsill, watching the line of his profile as he worked.I couldn't count how many times I had pictured in my mind what we would look like growing old.Maybe we'd sit side by side beneath the eaves in late spring, watching crabapple petals fall.Maybe I'd feel the warmth left in his palm on a deep winter night after he tucked the blanket around me.I had even imagined how I would get through the long, lonely nights if he left this world before me.Yet the

The sharp sting of disinfectant and the cold white glare of the lights washed the whole hospital room pale and silent. My body was covered in gauze, and it hurt too much even to roll over."My darling girl, you're finally awake. Thank the Goddess you're all right, and thank the Goddess I reached you in time."A pair of callused hands settled gently on my shoulders.I looked at my father, whose hair had gone white overnight at my bedside, and finally broke into sobs I couldn't stop.A long while later, I slowly lifted a hand toward my belly."Dad. The baby."My father's tears fell on the back of my hand, and he was silent a long moment before he spoke."When we got you out, the baby was already gone. My darling, your father tried with everything he had, but I'm so sorry. You'll have children again one day."It felt as if a huge piece had been carved out of my heart.Despair closed over me completely, and just as I tried to speak, the door was shoved open from outside. My brother walked

When that familiar figure and voice appeared, every face in the room changed. They all looked up, not daring to move under the pressure of the silver barrels.Oliver's face collapsed in an instant.Glaring into the freezer at me, he burst out furiously."Grace, what kind of scene are you making? You were exiled—"Everyone present could see how terrified he was of my father.Several of the more timid ones had already dropped to their knees, kowtowing and begging him for mercy. My father was a legend across every Pack.Even the Alpha King gave my father a measure of respect. At fifteen, he had taken the crumbling La

The Beta jabbed at the electronic lock, but she was too flustered to get the door open.A rare panic showed on Oliver's face.He started babbling, trembling all over."Are you on your period too? Is that why you're bleeding so much?"When the door still wouldn't open, he grabbed Sophia's arm."What are you standing there for? Open the door and get my wife out, now. And bring the doctor in right away."Surprised that Oliver was still this frantic, Sophia's expression turned grave. She forced a smile and walked to the freezer door. After a quick glance at the man beside her, she reached out and tapped at the electronic lock a few times.Sophia shot me a look of pure disgust. In the depths of her eyes, I caught a flash of vicious pleasure. Her face twisted with jealousy and the ugliness of a winner. An instant later, a sharp, drawn-out electronic beep rang through the room. Then came a dead, total silence.Playing completely innocent, she spun around. She dropped to her knees toward Olive

I've already got the Pack's best doctor waiting at the door, and the frostbite potion is ready. What could possibly go wrong?"Powerful Alpha pressure rolled off Oliver, and the Beta had no choice but to obey.He had people throw more ice blocks into the glass room. They lowered the temperature another 36 degrees. One of the men, still not satisfied, even fetched a basin of cold water and poured it straight over my head.I wanted to scream that I was pregnant, but I simply couldn't make a sound. My skin felt pierced by countless ice needles, nailing me to the floor. The cold burrowed into every crack between my bones and froze my blood into slush ice.I looked down at my swollen belly.I didn’t know how long I’d been trapped in this glass freezer room.My lips were purple, and frost had formed on my lashes. My finge
