Nick’s POV

The nursery felt like a cage as I paced from the window to the crib and back again.

“This is a mistake,” I said through gritted teeth, stopping to grip the window frame hard enough to make the wood creak. “Bringing him into enemy territory compromises his security.”

Kelsey sat in the rocking chair, bouncing Alexander nervously as he fussed in her arms. “Penelope isn’t the enemy anymore.”

“Not Dominic’s enemy,” I whirled to face her, “but now he’ll be exposed to whatever threats surround her. The Rogue King—”

I cut myself off, realizing what I’d almost revealed. Alexander continued fussing, reaching for the toy elephant just out of his grasp.

Kelsey’s blue eyes sharpened. “What about the Rogue King? What do you know about that?”

Heat crawled up my neck. I’d spent months being careful, never revealing my connection to the underground network that fed me intelligence about enemy movements. One moment of anger had nearly destroyed everything.

“Nothing more than anyone else,” I s

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 325: The Duel

Dominic’s POVThe arena filled before dawn. Word had spread through every territory—two respected leaders settling their rivalry the old way, blood and bone.I stood in the preparation area, stripping off my shirt as pack members took their seats in the wooden bleachers. My chest showed scars from years of fights and challenges that came with being an Alpha. Each mark told a story. The long slash across my ribs from the border war eight years back. The puncture wound near my shoulder from the young hothead who thought he could take my place. The burn mark on my forearm from a silver blade wielded by someone who’d underestimated how fast I could move.“Nervous?” My Beta asked, helping me wrap my hands.“No.” I rolled my shoulders, feeling muscles bunch and release. “This needed to happen.”Across the arena, Julian was going through his own preparations. Without his shirt, he looked different than I’d expected. Lean muscle, yes, but more substantial than his clothes suggested. Scars of h

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 324: Blood and Bone

Penelope’s POVI didn’t wait for Elder Francis to finish his announcement. The moment he said “formal duel,” I was on my feet and heading for the exit.Idiots. Both of them.My boots hit the pavement outside the Council building. Behind me, voices rose in excitement as pack members discussed the upcoming duel.I climbed into my car and slammed the door hard enough to rattle the windows. The engine roared to life, and I peeled out of the parking lot before anyone could follow me.The training facility was empty when I arrived. Good. I needed space to think, to move, to hit something before I exploded.I changed into workout clothes in record time, then headed for the main training room. The heavy bag hung in the center like it was waiting for me.My first punch landed with a satisfying thud. Then another. And another.“They’re acting like teenagers fighting over a toy instead of grown men making rational decisions,” I muttered, delivering a vicious uppercut to the bag.“Rough day?”I sp

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 323: The Ancient Way

Julian’s POVThe parking area behind the Council building was empty except for our two vehicles. Dominic had followed me outside, fury visible in every line of his body.“You don’t get to lecture me about leadership in front of other Alphas,” he snarled, advancing like a predator closing in for the kill.I held my ground despite knowing he could seriously injure me if this turned physical. “Someone has to when your decisions get people hurt.”“Someone has to?” His voice rose dangerously. “Who made you the authority? Who gave you the right to humiliate an Alpha publicly?”“Three of your people are in the hospital,” I replied calmly, though my enhanced senses were picking up the dangerous pheromones rolling off him. Rage, territorial aggression, the chemical signals of a dominant wolf pushed past his breaking point. “That gives me the right to point out what went wrong.”“What went wrong is you. Interfering in my life, my family, my territory.” He stepped closer, hands clenched into fist

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 322: Poor Judgment

Dominic’s POVThe border patrol report landed on my desk at the worst possible time. My head was pounding from another sleepless night thinking about Julian’s fighting skills, about Penelope’s eyes when she’d banned me from her house, about the way Debbie had flinched when I’d tried to hug her goodbye.“Strange movement spotted along the eastern border,” my Beta read from his notes. “Could be hunters, could be scouts. Hard to tell what they’re doing out there.”Hunters. Or scouts. Or something worse preparing to threaten my territory while I was distracted by personal disasters.“How strange?” I asked, forcing myself to focus.“Moving together like they’re looking for something. Not random wandering.” He flipped a page. “Garcia thinks we should send people to watch them first, figure out what—”“No.” The word came out harder than I’d intended. “We go out there immediately. Send three teams to the eastern border.”He blinked. “Sir? Without finding out more first?”“I said immediately.”

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 321: Invisible String

Nick’s POV“Sir, we need your decision on the border patrol schedules.”Kane stood at attention in Dominic’s office, but his eyes were on me instead of the Alpha slumped behind the desk. Third time this week pack members had bypassed Dominic entirely.“What do you think, Nick?” Dominic asked without looking up from the window. He’d been staring outside for twenty minutes, lost in whatever mess he’d made of his personal life.“Increase the eastern rotation by two hours,” I said smoothly. “Decrease the western posts by one. Intelligence suggests more activity to the east.”“Done.” Kane nodded at me, not Dominic. “Anything else?”“That’ll be all.”Kane left, and I returned to my paperwork. Running Darkwood Pack had become easier than I’d expected. Members trusted my steady decisions over Dominic’s emotional disasters. They brought me problems, asked for my guidance, looked to me for leadership.Exactly as the Rogue King had planned. His words from our last meeting echoed in my mind: “Crea

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 320: Hunting Myself

Julian’s POVThe warehouse looked different in daylight. Abandoned. Forgotten. Like something from a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from.I parked behind the building and walked through the side entrance, my footsteps hollow on concrete. Two months since my last summons. Two months of wondering if my cover was blown, if the Rogue King suspected what I really was.The underground chamber was darker than I remembered. Torches flickered in their brackets. The Rogue King sat at his usual spot—the head of a scarred wooden table surrounded by empty chairs. He looked older. Worn down. The string of defeats had carved new lines around his eyes, turned his hair more gray than black.“Julian.” He gestured to the chair at his right hand. “Sit. We have much to discuss.”I took my place, noting how his hands shook slightly as he poured wine into two cups. The confident warlord I’d first met was cracking under pressure.“You look injured,” he observed, his pale eyes scanning my face. “What happened?”
