Chapter 9

"You fooled everyone here, Clara ." I heard Mr. Jameson speak. His voice was filled with grief and disappointment.

The worst part of this all was facing Mr. Jameson-after all, I had betrayed his trust.

"I had no option," I replied. I said,

We walked into the cold basement once again and visions of last night appeared. The air sent chills to my bare skin.

It took me hours to fall asleep and now I was here again. Thankfully, there was a bit of sunlight so I wasn't as scared as I was last night.

"What is your story?" Mr. Jameson asked as he sat down on my bed. I was caught by surprise when he asked that. No one had ever dared to learn about my past and I don’t feel the need to tell anyone.

"Nothing special," I shrugged it off as it wasn't anything but my past still burned inside me every single day.

"Tell me, Clara. Where do you come from?" He folded his hands across his chest and waited for an answer. "I won't tell anyone if you don't want me too."
